Got an interesting letter recently from my Nissan dealer.

Apparently every now and then they randomly draw a couple customers' names who have recently purchased cars, and give them a free 40,000 mile Security Plus gold protection plan.

I was one of those customers, apparently.

Since I basically never buy any sort of extra warranty or plan, I was wondering if anyone here happened to know what this actually covers.

You can go on nissanusa.com and find out exactly what it covers. I actually have a higher level extended warranty on my V (5yrs/75,000miles) and it covers everything with a $50 deductible. I also found out from my first V that if you total your vehicle before the warranty is up, it is refundable (pro-rated of course) so it's not a horrible deal for the piece of mind it provides...

Minus the fact that at present I drive 36,000 miles per year, so an extended warranty would still be gone long before the car is paid off.

OK, I'll go check it out. I'm not about to complain about a free extended service program of any kind.

I have the highest plan they have, 100k/ 7years, and it kinda sucks, cuz what they dont cover are the wheel rotation, strauts and springs and all the things to do with wheels, they dont cover tune ups, or the maintanance they make you go for, like if something is broken there they wont cover, they cover up to 1500 parts, the catalog is at http://www.nissanusa.com

if I could i would sell my warranty back to the dealership...ya its nice and all but when I want to change something that will void the warrenty i cant because it will be like wasting money...so im just going to wait the 3 years....maybe 2 before i do any kinda anti-warranty upgrades.

NO car company in their right mind will cover maintenance in a warranty.

My dad has the Security Plus like you, the 7yr, 100k mile coverage, and his struts/springs are covered. I have replaced many struts under Suckplus.

You may be able to get a prorated portion of the warranty back. Call Nissan and ask. I did when I totalled my car and I'm getting most of my money for the warranty back
