Does anybody know if unplugging the security module on a J30 will disable the ignition ?

jester4666 has a no start issue on his 94 and I'm trying to get him going.
Turn the Key and Nada. No click or anything.
New alternator and a fresh battery.
The problem started after a drive just after he replaced the alternator.
The module was pulled after the problem popped up.
Any help would be Greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly, the alarm was just an alarm. It couldn't disable the ignition-at least in the early models. I know for a fact, I have started the J up with the alarm blaring.

Interesting.
The FSM alarm circuit shows the drivers door unlock sensor and the starter relay in the alarm circuit.
All that said.
He has no power to the starter.
The circuit has to be open somewhere.

Disconnecting the module is not a or the problem, I had to delete that box when building the first racecar, the starter cut out relay defaults to a always start position

ok, so unplugging the theft warning control module takes the alarm out of the circut and allows the starter to get power? just making sure that i'm reading it right. if i am, then there is something between the ignition & starter now that is causing my idontwannastart issue.

in another location, it was suggested i take jumper cables and run power directly to my starter to see if it turns over. any opinions on that?

Worth a shot.
I keep thinking about it happening after the alternator install.
Has to be related me thinks.
I suppose the starter could be the culprit !

seems really odd that it happened after i drove it 20+ miles home after the alternator install.

Correct, removing the security box will allow the car to start if that was the cause. Have you verified good batter voltage/charge level? A jumper wire from B+ to the starter solenoid will verify if the starter itself is ok so try that. Next you will need a test light to test all fuses and isolate things further, my racecar ignition switch is stock and out in the open I can get the proper color wire to test next, just ask.

Oh just to be sure it is not something really simple try turning the key(left hand) and holding it in the start position while holding the brake and slowly selecting each gear, this eliminates a linkage or neutral safety switch adjustment issue.

Edit: A drive of 20 miles after a new alt then a no start? DEFINITELY attempt charging or a jump start as the new one may not have been charging for some reason and now you are left with enough power to make things look normal but not enough to work the starter.

well, the battery that was in it during the drive home got drained sitting for a couple days, so the one i'm using right now i just bought. i only hook it up long enough to try to start it. there really isn't too much pull on it being that the starter doesn't even try to turn over. like yoda mentioned...no click, no anything. turn the key, silence.

As Chump suggested.
"Oh just to be sure it is not something really simple try turning the key(left hand) and holding it in the start position while holding the brake and slowly selecting each gear, this eliminates a linkage or neutral safety switch adjustment issue."
neutral safety switch will cause a "No Click" symptom.

To rule out a bad starter and verify sufficient voltage you will need to climb under the car and jumper power to the starter solenoid then back track from there but if getting under the car is not possible acquire a test light and check every single fuse in both boxes.

Fantastic news Jester !!!
Was the loose connection related to the Alternator swap ?

actually it was related to the kill switch that was put in by a previous owner. i didn't mention it because it seemed to be hooked up solidly. had a friend come over with a multi-meter and he let me know that it wasn't connected as well as i thought.

Kill Switch ??
Interesting. We used those often back when I was into quarter Milers with my brother.
But never in a street car.
It was always on the dash, and was used to shut off the fuel pump/Ignition in case of a catastrophic failure.
Alcohol fire's are a buggar. :)

well, considering the neighborhood i went to when i bought the car....maybe they were using it as a security measure since they didn't have the remote for the keyless entry/alarm. there's no telling, but i'll definitely keep an eye on it if the car stops starting again.

side note: drove the car to work this morning and it runs great. of course if you don't take into consideration the normal acceleration/rough idle symptoms. ;)

No prob, Oh and just to clarify.
You don't need to use the remote to activate the factory alarm.
I activates when you lock the doors.
