Alright...for as long as I've owned the J the security light has been on. It flashes when the car is off (no setting of the alarm) and stays on when the car is turned on and running as well. I haven't found the patience to really analyze the 300zx FSM so I figured I'd post on here and see if there was a common issue/fix regarding this.

Also, I had a spare key fob remote from my 95 Maxima I figured would work on the J30 but I cant seem to program it and I dont know if this is due to the security system issue or what to make of it exactly. I followed the procedure on fuzzycats.com which is organized in a slightly confusing fashion.

1. G20, J30, 045 only: Open the vehicle trunk.2. All models, including I30: From inside the vehicle, close and lock all vehicle doors.3. Insert and remove the ignition key more than six times within 10 seconds. This will erase any original ID codes from thecontrol unit in the trunk. (The hazard warning lamps should flash twice in the I30 model only).4. Enter new vehicle code as follows:^ Unlock and lock the driver's door inside lock lever one time.^ Press the door lock button on the remote controller one time. This will enter the vehicle ID code into the removecontroller.

I appreciate the help.

The FOB frequency code has to match the J30's Code.

I see the remotes advertised to work for both the 4th generation maxima and the J30. They look identical.

Just an FYI. In my experience and most of the past and present J owners experience, most Infiniti dealers will program/re program your key fob for free at a non busy time (i.e. not when people are dropping or picking up vehicles). If you're having problems, check your local dealer.

argg, that sounds like a hassle. I feel like its not programming because the security light is on. If I turn the key in the door lock like I'm unlocking the car it turns off for just a second.

My horn doesnt work either for some reason (bad relay?) so I cant tell if the damn thing is even going off. I guess the hazards would be going too.

I'll replace the battery and try again...

still nothing .I replaced the horn relay as well (since that doesn't work either). I can't seem to make any progress here.
