Is the Security light supposed to remain flashing all the time regardless if the car is locked or unlocked or armed?

Last week we replaced the 11 year old battery and the car starts perfect as one would expect. This evening I went to start the car and the battery was totally discharged. I did notice the back hatch was in not secure and also I had a portable Garmin plugged in, but in the off position. I can't tell if either one drained the battery.

The Owner's manual describes how to arm/unarm the security system. It states the light should go off in 30 seconds. Apparently its not. I'm not sure if we are doing something wrong or the system is bad. Since we will be bringing our car in for several items that need to be addressed, I just wanted to make sure I need to add this issue to the repair list.

The security light will flash like that to warn you of an issue such as the ajar hatch, ajar doors, key left in, car left unlocked (3-4 flashes), any security issue.
I've left the hatch ajar many times doing projects, and it always if left long enough drains the battery so no big deal there.

Also worth noting is the hood sensor. No interior lights will come on, but the car thinks the hood is up and keeps the security light blinking, and drains the battery. Most hood sensors are well past their prime nowadays. You can either replace or bypass.

Good to know. Where is it located? I've seen pictures of it but not the physical location.

Near the driver's side upper coil mount at the top of the fender.

Good call Ace, I had that issue with my NA...maybe my first ever repair.
Bob, it kind of stands up there by the coil as Ace says, has a black rubber boot that the tip will touch the hood when it's down...or not when broken/bent.
I personally removed it as it gets in the way when working and is easily damaged, much more easily removed and unclipped from the harness and all problems solved.

Great meeting you today Bob, and also VERY nice to meet Laurie! I enjoyed meeting you two and chatting very much.
Couldn't believe my good fortune driving in to Fairlady today and seeing your car...she's a REAL beauty! The great pictures you posted still did not do her justice, that's one clean Z32. BTW, I have the exhaust pieces we talked about in the car ready to drop when I pick up my Z, so you'll be ready when you return to see Doug again.
Hopefully we meet again, and Laurie please DO post up here about your Z! As I mentioned some of us local Z guys will do a low-impact cruise or two during the summer, it would be great to have you along if you were interested!

It was a pleasure meeting you also. Its nice to meet people that have similar interests. We will post more pictures of the car once we detail it and get the new pipes installed. Thank you very much...Laurie can't wait to have a quieter ride.

The summer cruise sounds like fun. Keep us posted. Also, do you belong to the Z Car Club of Washington? If so, is it worth joining?

Hope to run into you again soon. Laurie says hello!

I myself have not gotten involved with any of the local clubs, but I have heard good things about the Z Car Club and I believe the president is involved or works at a (Belleview?) dealership, and caters to the club members needs. As for cruises so far I have met up with Chris (Z-Owned) from this site and a few local Z guys he knows, both for cruises and a couple of car shows. His friend Pyotr (hope I spelled that right) has a convertible you just have to see, it's been heavily modified and TT'd, but is possibly the most tasteful work and beautiful pearl white Z I have ever seen...all done himself, I believe.
I also plan to visit Nismovs and his race car project (posted here at NICO) up in BC soon this coming summer, he said his club cruises each month so that should be a blast as well! Not sure if anyone else is into this trip, but anyone local who wants to cruise up with me is welcome!

Laurie's checking out their site. Looks like they have a lot of interesting road trips.

Have you ever gone over to Griot's Garage for one of the Nissan detail events or their monthly Caffine and Gasoline events? I was over their the other day asking about it. This month they ended up with 40-50 Ferarri's and about 500 people. They were overwhelmed. Ran out of coffee and donuts too! I love that place. Its nice to have them in our backyard.

No I haven't been to Griot's, funny though that a co-worker had his wife modeling for a car there last year. Meant to go but missed for whatever reason, sounds like I missed out!
LOVE me some Ferraris....
