I don't think it's as much overheating as it is to protect from a stone or debrise from kicking up. Since I relocated my filter it has been bliss! I only remove mine for service like alt. or belts etc.ceningolmo wrote:

I took mine off 3 months ago and haven't had a problem. I do plan on putting on some kind of shield one dayceningolmo wrote:I've been told that I will probably go to hell for this but...I've been driving my Q without one for the last 8 months.
Someone will now tell you why I suck and it's likely that the Q will overheat if you do this. But, since I am never in city type stand-still traffic... I don't have any issues with overheating. The car is never running while parked in once place for more than a couple of minutes.
Also... by having it the airflow from the bottom airdam is precisly where the engineers wanted it to flow (on top of the shield, under the engine cooling it and drawing hotter air down and out through the back end. Without the shield you are interupting that flow and in my opinion taking a year or two off your engine life, not to mention all the water and grit your alternator, ac, pulleys, bearing and belts will collect and have to deal with.superuber wrote:
