I'm trying to figure out the best way to launch the sr. i'm not really sure if revving it to 5k and dumping the clutch is exactly the fastest launch. i've heard from local friends with turbo cars to slip the clutch rather than outright dropping it? take into consideration that I have a stock s13 blacktop, a lightweight flywheel mated to a 6 puck/weak clamping pressure plate...

since I don't have any experience with this car on the track hopefully someone with experience can chime in.

lsd and street legal drag radials. best way to have the traction and drive it to the drag strip. they hook up extremely well. ive been getting really consistent launches sidestepping the clutch at about 5k and throttling up as it hooks up.

sidestepping as in outright dumping the clutch?

i'll be dropping my r32 rear end into my new hatch sometime soon so my rear end will be covered. i have some crappy 225/50's right now but they seem to hook up well.by the way, i've seen a bunch of you shock drifting guys driving around. pretty nice cars. what kind of rims do you have on your hatch?

It's because with cars that have responsive powerbands and/or traction it's the fastest and most consistant way out of the hole.

Imagine your foot on the clutch, now imagine stepping to the side of the clutch. It's the same thing as popping the clutch.

yeah, sorry. sidestepping like dumping the clutch. i pull the rpms up to about 4-5k, and hold till i see the green, then dump the clutch and keep giving it more gas as i get traction. i have a vlsd and aired down street legal drag radials, so it is very consistent. ive found that slipping the clutch out of the hole heats it up too much and will start letting 2nd and 3rd gear slip at higher boost on you later runs. as long as you have a nice clutch. i havent put it on the clock yet, but my d-pic-gtech-omometer says i am running in the 13.25 area. i race my buddies 13.5 consistent cobra mustang and beat him everytime.

as for the shocker drifting, i am no part of that. just something we thought was funny the beginning of last race season. we just stuck with it. the rims are sportmax 18x7.5 941 series.

your launch techniques really depend on your engine, drivetrain, and tires setup. If alright to launch really high on drag radials because even if they spin your still getting crazy foward motion and grip. Street tires, i find best to slip the clutch and granny shift to 2nd depending on your power.

You will be fighting for traction with that setup... I'd just run it up to about 3500 - 3800 and hope you don't bog.

I will be doing a 5500 - 6000 RPM dump.

what kind of wheel/tire setup are you guys using?

i think the combo of a larger wheel and 225/50's is giving me a good amount of grip...but i def need that rear end - that 4.36:1 gear ratio is badass.

do you think switching to a smaller 15x7 wheel with a low offset with maybe a 215/50 or 225/50 help with acceleration?

Has anyone tried unhooking the front swaybar?? I have heard of people doing it on mustangs, wasn't sure if it was feasible on a 240. Sorry if this has been tried and doesn't work and/or is extremely dangerous in a 240.

note: becareful in the top end might get a little loose, and be sure to hook it back up before you drive back home

id go drag radials or slicks before disconnecting the swaybars. best tire setup is a wide and tall tire. Alot of guys run a 225/60/15 or 235/60/15 drag radial. With going a taller tire you have alot more surface area when lowering tire pressure.

yea thats another thing...lower the tire pressure when you go to teh track..make sure you dont completely defalte it and alos have a pump to pump it up for the ride home

my roomates crx has a two step on it. its cool, but ive never dragged with it on, so my opinion doesnt really count. plus his car hasnt ran well in a while (sohc turbo crx). i have a vlsd, drag radials, and can shift gears like a mad man.

A nice 2 way carrier, or better yet a LOCKED or welded differental would make a big difference. Welded diff on the street might not be a good idea, but is very doable, and would kick as at ET's. Lsd's work but when they get hot they don't ALWAYS do the job. After that good tires are a must. A nice drag set-up only works as good as your tires grip. Welding the diff with proper techniqe will last a long as time. Yes it puts more stress on your driveline-tires-everything. The most important part of your Et is your 0 to 60ft time. Theres always a give and take.
