Im not really sure what diagnostic check you are talking about. Sounds like you are talking about the little menu item in the secret diagnostic menu from your thread title, but that doesnt really do anything except check a few sensors and basically check just the center console unit for functionality. Or maybe you are talking about a scanner that you hook up through the ODBII port?
Either way, TPMS sensors are their own thing and they do go out. Each sensor communicates independently with the computer system of the car and I doubt two of the receivers simply went out. Most likely the sensors need replacing.
If your center console crashes during the little self test then something is probably wrong with it. I do not think the service engine soon light will come on for a center console problem though, that light I *think* is controlled by the ECU which is in charge of the engine and the sensors that make the car actually move and all that. I can reset the console computer system even while driving and it does not cause any dash lights to come on or the car to flip out.
Did you know that there is a 2nd level to that secret diagnostic menu? If you do the same procedure once more that you use to get into the menu while you are already inside then some additional options will open up.
