Well, I just purchased a 1997 J30 which came with one remote. I purchased another one on eBay. I can program it but then the original one won't work, or I can reprogram the first remote, then the second won't work. I've done the open trunk, lock doors, insert key in ignition at least 6 times or more in 10 seconds, unlock drivers side and use remote lock. My problem is that I can't seem to get a second remote programed. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong.

Thanks,Len

what's this "driving mom's car" under my name?

I think that you have to repeat the first few steps of the remote programming procedure for ALL your remotes for all of them to work.

See my website. Look for the Remote Programming .PDF file.

Carlos,

Thanks for the reply, but I tried every permutation and still can't get the second remote to program. I did bookmark your sight though!

I'm not sure that you can program more than one. I tried the same with mine, following the same procedure - and could only program one at a time.

I read some where that you can enter the id codes for a maximum of 4 remote controlers. I read this on another Infiniti group, but who knows. I can't do it. I may try to call the local Infiniti dealer tomorrow and see if they're willing to give up some free advise or whether they'll say "bring the car on in"!

Thanks,Len

that is a connon issue with the j30. have you checked the battery in the remote ? also if it is an older remote it may not be making contact when you press the button. also of you have aquired a second remote make sure it is the one for the vehicle. the dealer has a test tool that will check the operation of the remote. a reputable dealer may check and program both remotes for you. at no charge. remember once you have programed the first remote you need to unlock and lock the drivers door for each addl. remote. one last note.....once you have inserted the key 6 times, the keyless control unit will be cleared of any programed remotes.

Voltmeter says the battery is ok. I was able to program the second remote, but then the first wouldn't work. I've tried to program the second remote by locking and unlocking the drivers door after the first remote was programed then tried to lock the door with the second remote , it didn't work. Still confused about getting a second remote to program. It sounds like once you insert the key 6 times the keyless control unit will be cleared of any programed remotes then once the first remote is programed by unlocking and locking the drivers side door, the remote is programed, and the only way to program the second one is to unlock the drivers side door and push the lock button on the second remote (which didn't work). I'm still a bit confused.

It is a 30 second procedure, so the Infiniti dealership might do it for free. Especially, if you shop there for service, or parts.

I had 2, at one time, but could never get both programmed at the same time, either.

I got the instructions from the parts guy. I understood the instructions were somewhat different, depending on the serial number of your car. We programmed one there at the dealership, but I didn't bother with the second.

There is a TSB on this and the steps for the I30 vary somewhat from the other Infinitis. If you don't download it, get it from the service manager by being very nice.

So what I'm hearing is that you have to reprogram the original remote, which I think that I know how to do then what time period do I have to program the second? Would you be so nice as to run down all the steps from the beginning of reprograming the first to reprograming the second. I've sort of tried to do the second right after the first by locking the drivers side door and pushing the remote on the second, which didn't work. It sounds like you found out the right way to do it. You can email me directly if you want. I'd really appreciate it and thanks for the welcome!

Thanks,Len

To Program or Re-Program the remote controller Note: If the customer has more than one remote controller, all remote controllers must be reprogrammed at the same time I30 only: Make sure the extended storage fuse (#40) is installed

1. G20, J30, Q45 only: Open the vehicle trunk.

2. All models, including I30: From inside the vehicle, close and lock all vehicle doors.

3. Insert and remove the ignition key more than six times within 10 seconds. This will erase any original ID codes from the control unit in the trunk. (The hazard warning lamps should flash twice in the (I30 model only).

4. Enter new vehicle code as follows:

G20, J30 Q45 Models

- Unlock and lock the driver's door inside lock lever one time.- Press the door lock button on the remote controller one time. This will enter the vehicle ID code into the remote controller. I30 Model

- Turn the ignition key to the ACC position.- Press the door lock button on the remote controller one time. (The hazard warning lamps will flash twice again.) This enters the vehicle ID code into the remote controller. To program additional remove Controllers(Continued from previous instructions, steps 1-4)

5. Manually unlock the driver's door, then lock again with the DOOR lock knob.6. Press the door lock button on the additional remote controller once.7. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position (I30) and remove the key to test remote operation,8. Complete ID enter mode by operating the driver's side door. A maximum of four remote controllers can be programmed to the vehicle. Any attempt to enter more will be ignored. In all cases, test the remote controllers for correct operation with the ignition key OFF and removed. Note: The "beep" function in some Infiniti keyless remote controllers was deleted during period 3/94 to 5/94, depending upon the model. After 6/1/94 production, no Infiniti remote controllers have a "beep". If a customer requests a remote that "beeps" when the buttons are pressed, the replacement remote controller should not be charged to warranty.

Just in case you didn't get it, here it is.
