Some people join forums to do research on a prospective purchase. Others, to get info on how to do DIY projects. And then there are some who join because they are having an issue with their purchase and they want to find out if it is an isolated issue, a common problem, how to fix it themselves, or maybe just to have some info in hand when they approach the repair facility.

On one hand, if the forum is filled with people who arrived here because they are having issues with their vehicle, then the generalized take-away could be that a particular vehicle is prone to problems. On the other hand, there could be thousands of customers who never have a problem with their vehicle, and consequently will never be found on a forum... and then there are all those folks who fall in between the two categories, and/or outside of those categories.

My hope is that there are many members here who are having a trouble-free experience. I know this may sound cynical, but as in life, it seems that you only hear from your boss when you've screwed up, and rarely/never hear when you've done an outstanding job. So to segue over to this thread...I wonder if we only hear about negative issues, and rarely/never hear from people with trouble-free vehicles...

With all that said, and after having read many, many pages full of various threads, I'm trying to get a feeling from the forum members as to the quality of their 2nd generation Rogue. My reasoning for this thread is personal ( I'm doing my homework prior to the purchase of a 2nd gen Rogue - probably a 2015) . I also realize that this could be a compendium of issues or non-issues for other members...

I respectfully ask for the following:

1) Rogue model year (2014 or 2015)
2) Trim level & Package (S, SV, SL) & (Premium, Family)
3) Has your vehicle been back to the dealer for repairs, or has it been trouble-free
4) Approximate current mileage when you posted to this thread (and if there was an issue, at what mileage the issue appeared)

5) If you've had an issue, please provide a brief description (roof rattle, AC not cooling, Navigation not working, etc...)
6) If you had an issue, was the dealer able to fix it (and if so, how many visits did it take?)
7) Did the issue need to be taken above the local level, possibly to area rep, Nissan Corporate, etc...)
8) If the issue was not fixed, what were you told (a software fix is being worked on, we cannot duplicate the issue, a fix is being worked on by corporate, etc...)
9) Other comments...

As stated above, I'm trying to get info as to reliability. I'm going to add a poll just for a quick look at which systems, if any, are prone to problems.

If you've posted, and a second issue turns up at a later time, post again, but please only include the NEW info in the poll.

If there are widespread issues (which I'm hoping there are not), hopefully this will get "stickied" where prospective customers can see what's going on before they spend their money!

Thanks in advance for your participation!!!

2) SL FWD with Premium Package
3) Went to dealler for software update to the entertainment/radio
4) Currently 4500 mi. Issue was noticed at 1000 mi.
5)Problems with radio/NAV randomly rebooting, NissanConnect issues, and hands-free issues using an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1
6) Fixed 1st visit with software update
7) no
8) N/A
9) This was the kind of minor issue that I expected to happen with a 1st year model refresh of this magnitude. It was purely a convenience thing, and I waited until my first (free) oil change to have it addressed.

Ferrisfan, thank you for posting. This is exactly the info I'm looking for. So basically, we have one response for a minor issue that was spotted early on in ownership, and promptly taken care of by the dealer!

3) Has your vehicle been back to the dealer for repairs: Yes
4) Approximate current mileage when you posted to this thread: 7000. Radio issues since day 1 (resolved w/ update); drivers side window regulator "popping" at 4000.
5) If you've had an issue, please provide a brief description: Software issues with radio and dash display (not saving maintenance miles and freezing on radio). Both resolved with update, although after the update audio playback is "choppy" from USB devices for the first 30 seconds of starting the car (like the CPU is maxed out or something). My drivers side window regulator started making a loud "pop" or "clunk" when rolling the window up starting at 4000 miles. Issue was resolved by dealership replacing the part.
6) If you had an issue, was the dealer able to fix it: Yes
7) Did the issue need to be taken above the local level: No (the maintenance reminder thing was submitted above my dealership level, but my dealership handled it all for me)
8) If the issue was not fixed, what were you told: N/A
9) Other comments...: N/A

Forum won't let me edit my original post:

Please, if you check something on the poll, follow up with the pertinent info. Poll results without info are meaningless. The poll categories are quite broad!!! Checking that you had a problem with "Mechanical" does not let us know whether you had a blown engine, or a stuck brake caliper, for example. Without that follow-up with comments, there is little that can be gleaned from the poll!

Posting comments also lets us know that we don't have a disgruntled owner repeatedly checking off the same thing every time he or she visits the thread :nono:

My receipt doesn't say, but I believe it was part of NTSB 14-067 as mentioned in the vehicle maintenance display thread.

The maintenance TSB was separate from the nav TSB (mine were applied separately from the dealership - they did my maintenance update but had to wait for a usb drive to do the nav update).

This is the Nav TSB thread: nav-system-tsb-t590753.html (14-028)

1) Rogue model year: 2014
2) SL & Premium
3) Back to the dealer 2 times
4) Current Milage: Aprox 8100km, First Problem happened at 0km,

5) First issue, as soon as I drove it off the lot, front drivers side tire was low. Dealer filled it up but the next day, it was flat again. Second issue is wind noise on the front drivers side, dealer diagnosed it as a mirror problem.

6) With the tire, it took them 2 hours to diagnose that it was the valve. They then had to "research" and order in the part because it was so new. Took them 4 hours to fix it. So that was 2 visits.
With the mirror wind noise, they said it was the whole mirror. They ordered a new one but it took two weeks to get the right part in. Then when they finally went to fix it, I get a phone call 2 hours later saying the mechanic found 2 clips were missing from my mirror. Apparently it came like that from the factory. So lucky me, they don't have to replace the whole mirror, just the cover....which they have to order and then paint.

7) No need yet.
8) They are ordering parts, so maybe next month? ugh.
9) It took them almost 2 days to install my Homelink mirror. And when I got the car back, I found a little green clip under the front drivers side seat. So, is this related to my side mirror missing clips? I have no idea.
The car has been great. I love love love it. I just really really really dislike dealing with this dealership. /weep

2014 Rogue SV AWD
It's been back 2 times for repairs. First time was because the fan bearing was gone and the moonroof made a terrible creek over any bump, even if it was a pop can on the road and i drove over it. I also took it in because I thought the CVT was slipping on acceleration after a full stop. They changed the bearing, put felt in between the moonroof and glass ceiling and could not replicate the transmission issue. I took it back a second time because the moonroof issue was not resolved, the heat was no where near sufficient for winter in Ontario and the CVT was still slipping. I have since deduced that it is not the CVT rather the throttle as it doesn't even go up in RPM when I give it gas. I took it in today actually and they fixed the lack of heat by changing the control module (I'm told it's a known issue!), they could not replicate the CVT/throttle again and they fixed the moonroof by tightening the cross member...however after driving it home after the service area had gone home, it still made the sound. It sounds as though styrofoam is being rubbed against styrofoam. That really annoying sound. I'll be calling them tomorrow and letting them know.
Currently at 17,200KM.

I really hope I don't need to take it above dealership level. I was debating between the Rogue and the Forester and I really regret not buying the Forester. My wife needs a new car within the next 6 months and I have already talked to the Subaru dealership to make them a deal to take mine and they would sell us 2 Foresters. Sadly, I am ready to take a loss on the Rogue just to get it off my hands. I have driven 2 Maxima's, 2 Altima's, one Element and this Rogue and even my 10 year old Max's that I had were never as problematic as this.

Go to car complaints.com. I have done a lot of research to see who else has a problem with it.

3-4-5-6-7-8) Has your vehicle been back to the dealer for repairs: 1st week I noticed the passenger door trim was coming apart near the window button so they fixed it right away. The hood latch seemed a little loose so at high speeds the hood would shake/rattle they tightened it and its now fine. The moonroof squeaked a lot so they replaced the frame and its been fine for the last 3000kms. Had to go back 4 times to fix the squeeking sound from front driver side suspension. First they replaced strut bar and bushing i believe and then they changed the shock earlier this week and the noise is gone. The backseat shakes a lot when going over bumps but they told me that its normal. All thses issues were handled at the dealership level and all happened under 10 000kms.

So Consumer Reports actually recommends the rogue now and gave it "average" reliability. Nothing impressive, but nevertheless, it seems they ranked the rogue as the most reliable nissan, giving below average and poor reliability ratings to the altima, sentry, and pathfinder and most other nissans ,but the rogue got an average, whereas the subaru forester was above average along with toyota and nissan.
I've heard about the jatco CVTs going bad, but I heard they updated the CVT on this generation, so how have the new CVTs been? Does anybody have a current generation rogue with high miles (100k+), and could you tell me how the CVT has been? i heard a guy with a 09 rogue cared for it meticulously and drove all on the highway but at 150k, his cvt failed and he was upset at it.

so how has this generation been?

Also, are there any aftermarket fluids like CVT fluid by valvoline, or must you use the nissan fluid for the CVT? What's the coolant from the factory and can you use prestone or peak global or zerex asian?

What oil does it use? I heard the factory fill was valvoline synpower 0w-20 and that 0w20 synthetic is ok, as well as 5w30 (why? and which oil do you use) and can you se 5w20 in it since 0w20 is rarer?

I've merged your thread with an existing one as we've got at least three threads already on the subject of reliability (please use the SEARCH button). --------> REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS <--------

The questions about aftermarket fluids would be better served in a separate thread.

The entertainment/nav system is laggy. That's about my only complaint. And the fact that the passenger can't use the nav too much before the 'pay attention to driving' screen pops up.

how can you clean the dashboard? so can you clean your dashboard with windex, is that safe or will that scratch it up? I want to clean the rogue dashboard for the first time (mostly dust) but I don't want to scratch the dashboard. on the other hand, my camry's dashboard is already thoroughly scratched up and i don't want the rogue one to end up like that/repeat my mistakes, so how can I do it?

can you use windex to clean it and the dashboard? Will it scratch it up? my other older car's is already scratched and I don't want to do this to the new 2015 rogue, so what should I use? Protectant by armor all? Pledge? Windex? I usually use windex to clean lots of stuff, speaking of windex, can you use windex UNDER THE HOOD to clean your engine or should you use something like greased lightning or purple power and is greased lighting ok to use on cars (exterior, wheels, etc?)

can windex be used? joy? Can you use a regular cloth or should you use a microfiber cloth, and what about using a duster? And is it ok to use rustoleum never wet (auto) to spray on the dashboard or navigation screen other interior components or is that only for the seats? The dealer sprayed a layer of it when it was new but it's been half a year now of ownership. Do you get a 2nd free oil change or is it only the first one and are future oil changes at a discounted price or are they at normal price, and the 1st free oil change they gave was CONVENTIONAL oil rather than synthetic, right?
