The driver side seat in my 89 240 is jacked up . It will not lock in the upright position it just wants to ride gangsta style all the time. I finally had to fold down my rear seat to support it. Would it be hard to fix or should I just go out and buy a new seat. (I really like my stock seat just not leaned all the way back. )

The gears or whatever are inside the seat that keep it from leaning back feel broken . They try to catch but the don't . Whats up. I like my s13 seats a lot and don't really want s14 seats at the moment. so ha

its common in s13's. my 89 did the same thing. it folds down cuz the bolts in the brackets ripped thru or wore a big enuff hole to not catch. if your passenger seat is still good then just switch the backs.

theres only 2 bolts on each side of the seat to remove. you gotta lift the fabric up to see the 2 bolts. then use a socket and take em out. this way works best cuz you don't gotta unbolt the seat from the floor, so the part you sit on can stay right where it is.

cool thanks. is there any way to just switch out brackets or any place to get new brackets to fix it. I would rather not just switch the broken seat to the passenger because then my passenger would look ghetto fab.

I just had a conversation about this with my friend today. :) He had the same problem in his '89. (According to him) the seat backs only lock on one side, the side where the pull handle is. Drivers seat on the left side, passenger on the right side, but they have teeth or whatever it is that locks, on both sides. Swap backs, and now each seat will lock on the gear(or whatever it is) that was never used before.

Go here and click on the "Seat Broken" link in the left field.

I wrote it a few years ago when I had the same problem, takes about 30 minutes and saves you at least $130.00.

No problems ever since!
