For my s13. I found these seats and harnesses, and I am thinking I will probably be purchasing them. What do you all think?

I would get them.

That is if you dont mind putting your life in the hands of the children that made them in Taiwan. Why would you cheap out on the 2 most vital safety items in your car?

It never makes sense to me why people want to spend the least amount of money on the only things that connect you to your 2500 lb death machine.

even if you dont care about dying. let me tell you I bought ebay seats. After the fabbing hell to get them in, they really weren't much quality at all. I dont know if I would ever cheap out on seats again.

Waste of money.

Save up for a bit longer to get something made by a reputable company. If your'e on a budget take a look at Corbeau.

you forgot one very important thing....harness bar. you are really not safer with harnesses without one. oh, and please dont mount them to the floor. youll kill yourself. if you dont know why, dont get them. buy real seats. those will fall apart in a month. unless its a show car. oh and race seats need to be approved to be used in any kind of sanctioned racing. i know those arent. unless it carries the safety rating from the manufacturer, and ill bet they children in taiwan dont know about that kind of rating. theres a reason sparco and recaro seats are not 199 a pair. buy a corbeau clubman. 219. perfectly safe. and wont fall apart.

Also running harnesses without a roll bar or cage is a bad idea.

a customer of mine bought those seats as well and fabbing it to fit was such a pain. dont get seats that end up having to be fabbed up to the chassis. he ended up with a driver seat that was too high and a passenger seat held down by two bolts.

ever try just modding your S13 seat? there is some difference. R32 seats are an amazing alternative as well.

My first thought was why is this thread not titled "seats/harnesses/roll bar combo." Then I saw the cheese buckets.

Actually you don't really need a harness bar for harnesses to be safe. Many manufacturers (even DOT approved Schroth) recommend the rear seatbelt mounting locations or make model specific units that clip in where the rear seatbelts would. You do, however, need some sort of roll bar to protect you in case of an accident. You can get away without one if you're just going to use the belt for something low speed like autocrossing but I'm not sure if every organization would pass that or not in the safety inspection.

Anyway, I wouldn't buy those and I sure wouldn't put them in my vehicle and still drive it. They appear to be cheaply made and are probably terribly uncomfortable on top of being shady in the safety department.

ok, so the seats are bad even for just daily driving? I hate my interior (especially my seats) and thought they looked good (appearance at least) but, if they are an absolute waste of money then I'll just wait a while ( a looong while since i have no income) til I can get some better ones. sparco sienas maybe. the problem with the corbeau clubman is that it is fixed back and, though it may be a luxury, reclinablity is necessary for me. so that pretty much just pushes the price up a lot. the reason i considered these is because, it seems like all the major companies are selling the name, not the product.. but if they wont bolt in without a lot of custom fabbing then im just gonna drop the idea because thatll just be stupid.

Getting those seats and harnesses would be like making your roll cage out of PVC. Might look nice but not going to do sh** for you if something happens god forbid.

ok... so lets say, I am not planning on going to any events. so i am not worried about qualifying that. I am not planning on doing any spirited driving ( at least not for a while, id be waiting til I get my license, and by then I will have money saved up to get some true racing seats if it comes to that) The car will be for a daily driver only, driven only while learing/ getting used to my car/ etc. Are they really unsafe to the point that it is suicidal to install them for that? I am not buying them with the mindset of them being for racing, because in that case I'd buy some fixedback momos or sparcos. Im buying them because my interior makes me sad, the stock seats arent comfortable, and the upholstery is absolutely terrible. (bolster rip, yes, but also badly stained and it kinda smells... )

more opinions on the subject, esp. from those who've had experience with them (or who has friends who had them)

If you don't need huge side bolsters then I'd go with some s14, s15, r32, etc. seats. From what I've read in passing they mostly just bolt in but a little research on them should give you a better idea.

You can also just watch the classifieds of multiple car forums and pic an aftermarket seat or two up for a good price. Then just order the brackets for your car.

Sparo has a warehouse right here in Socal. Just wait until they have their clearout sale, seats go for like 100 to 300. They usually have it about twice a year.

You could also try the seats from the newer celicas.

^^seriously!!^^Anyways...

I would say stay away from everything you've posted.

You keep saying your not going to be doing events or hard driving, but that doesn't mean you will never get in an accident by just doing regular daily driving. If you get rear ended with one of those ebay seats, the back support will just drop and ur head will fall off...lol. but its true.

The Tenzo R's are too tall. IMO they dont belong in a 240. I know first hand. In my first 240 I was basically given a pair so I put them in. After a days worth of fab, they were in. Extremely too high tho. I'm 6'1" and my head would hit the top of my car sometimes. IT SUCKED.

The last link is the same as Ebay garbage. Some1 like yourself tried out some ebay seats and realized they are crap. Now they are selling them on craigslist using the same ebay posting pix to try to dump them on some1 else.

Why do you need reclinable soo0 bad? Its not like our cars have tons of room back there to begin with. Its a tiny back seat no matter whats in there. Might aswell keep ur options fully open.

Go with what the others have suggested. I have a sparco sprint for my skinny @ss and I love it. Its a non reclinable bucket seat and I wouldn't have it any other way.

They have a warehouse in Irvine. Here's an online ad of the one I went to earlier this year:

I don't know when their next one is but you can just check their usa sparco site for updates. One thing I recomend is that you come early to their sales, and I mean early. Last time I went I had to stand outside for over an hour in line just to get inside.

The craigslist seats, I heard that they are comfortable, but I wouldn't trust them in my car. The Tenzo, I'm not too sure about.

Word, Recaro "style" means knock-off garbage

Also remember, no harnesses without a harness bar.

I don't trust the rear seatbelt mounting location without a bar, because the angle is still terrible. Get in an accident, and your spine compresses. No more driving. No more walking.

I know, thats why i posted em... i was kinda testing you guys.. i just wanted to see if everyone was hating on the seats because they were from ebay.

anyway, i guess I'll probably just hold off on seats for a while.

if your really set on getting knock off seats, dont buy unless you can sit in them first. THen decide. sit, check the material, how rigid and sturdy it is etc. Tenzo R are probably better then the ebay knockoffs. DAD seats used to be out 2 years ago, supposedly they were decent for the money

http://www.ioportracing.com/ Theres a good site to look. And the sellers are actual race drivers and teachers not some hobo looking at the label. Make sure your harness is a 5 point since you dont want the sides to lift up and hit your upper abominal below your rib cage and the straps are straight as possible when they go through the holes- no bow/angle or your going to get a bad injury. And F those seats and harness.

if you buy knockoff seats and get in an accident, you will die. its that simple. They are not tested. If you're replacing seats use actual car-seats that have been tested to withstand crashes (s15 seats are always a nice upgrade) . Or get some ones from bride or another reputable company with certifications. If you get them from some 3rd rate ebay knockoff no one will shed a tear when you die.
