I was looking on Autotrader.com at the local Maximas for sale when I came across a 2004 Nissan Maxima SL. I was looking at the pictures and noticed that the back seats were semi-buckets divided by a console. I had assumed that this was part of the SL package, but I looked at other SL's and they all had your typical bench seat in the back. Was this an option package? What year(s) was it offered?

That's the Elite package and, yes, it was an option...from '04 to '08.It's not exclusive to the SL, either. You could have an SE with the Elite package, too.

The elite package added rear heated bucket seats and a power rear shade at the expense of the 60/40 split folding rear seat. It did still have a small passthrough behind the center arm rest, though.

One thing to be aware of when shopping for an '04 SL:The '04s (SL only) had two automatic transmission options: the 4 speed and 5 speed. I highly recommend holding out for a 5 speed, as it is a much better transmission. The 4 isn't bad by any means, but the 5 speed is much better suited to the car.

It looks to me like the one in the ad you linked has the 5 speed (from what I can see of the shifter gate trim).

1st glance at that picture and I thought it was a new Lexus or something of that class. Very classy touch, the rear bucket seat/console setup. I only wish the dashboards in the 04's and up didn't look as cheap and chinsy. All the silver and aluminum looking parts hint at the "I glued these aluminum chunks to the dash in my Civic" look.
