The seatbelts on my 92 240sx convertible are not locking, like when you pull hard, stop hard, or get into an accident, it should lock - however, no matter how I pull these belts, both lap & shoulder area, it refuses to lock, which is kind of scary.

I was wondering, does Nissan lifetime warranty this stuff? or was it just the auto seatbelts?

Is there any paperwork or something I have to show the dealership to make them fix it for free? or is this basically, just get another belt myself and be done w/ it.

THANKS!

I'd take it to a dealer.

They can direct you from there.

If I recall correctly, mine were VERY sensitive, and lock up even under light braking or acceleration.

Thanks for the quick reply Greg! I'm planning on doing the seatbelt conversion later like u did too , but always nice to have properly working seatbelts just in case.

Do keep in mind that it isn't pulling HARD, but pulling QUICKLY. It isn't always actually that easy to move quickly enough to trigger the lock by hand, but there's a trick. Hold the belt in your hand half way pulled out, then, rather than simply pulling quickly, push and then pull quickly. That is - let the seatbelt retract a bit before tugging on it all very rapidly.

That said, I second Greg's suggestion to take it to the dealer. They can give you the assurance that you're safe or the quote for fixing it.

Oh, and everyone here seems to agree that lifetime warranty means lifetime warranty. (well the nissan techs do and that's what matters) But in reality I've had trouble getting some dealers to honor it.

Go nail the brakes and see if it latches.

If not, there's a problem.

There's definately a problem .

I have another 240, and my friends have a couple. I can lock the belts in every single car i sit in, just not the convertible.

No biggie, I got Greg's write up on the rear belt to front upgrade, hehe.

Before you go to the dealer try gregs suggestion. if it works in that instance the belts will be determined to be ok. Drive the vehicle make a hard turn and try to lean forward as if to look around you seatbelt pillar. Or get up to around 45mph and hit the brake s and try to lean forward. If it locks your ok if it doesnt then there is definitly a problem with the lock weight in the seat belt.
