I know there have been threads about the automatic seatbelts, and I've read through them, but there not helping so here's my problem.

I was driving around in my 240sx fastback cuz I was bored, and listning to music and all that. Then I stopped and opened my trunk so I could move that platform that's in the trunk onto my back seats cuz my Subs were making everything rattle and it got annoying, then after I did that and got back in the car, the Drivers side seatbelt wouldn't retract. The damn thing would respond at all, I opened and closed the door repeatedly, turned off the car and tried it, turned it to ACC and tried it, and nothing.

But the whole time I was doing this, the passenger side auto seatbelt was doing what it was supposed to do. I dunno why it won't do anything at all now. I drove back home and parked the car, then tried opeing and closing the door over and over again, and turning the car on and trying it, then turning it off, then leaving the passenger door open and closing the driver side one, but nothing would make my driver side seatbelt retract, but my passenger one was respond accordingly everytime.

I dont get it.......What's wrong with my seatbelt????

did you try to remove the interior trims to see if the harness wasn't cut somehow or that the plugs was still connected?

I'm a new owner, and I don't have one of those great manuals all about the car, so I wouldn't know what plugs you are refering to

just take off the trims in the back, but you have to remove the back bottom seats to get that trim off.the bottom, top, the trim where you auto belts are and pillar trim, there's one connector in the back on the bottom, and one near the dash in the front. just pull them off but becareful to not break the tabs.2 connectors, remember that, in the back near the floor where the seats are (not the back support), and near the dash where the pillar trim is.

you're welcome, and if the seatbelt still doesn't pull back, switch to a manual seatbelt. s14 belts are ideal but the nx works also. even some infinity belts work, just make sure it buckles in to the seatbelt buckle before you try it.

yea thanks again........I got the cover's off the front off, and the other ones, that are just to the back of your head to the left off, but I cant get the ones off that are next to the back seats at the moment, I'll do it tomarrow when I have sunlight again, plus I dont feel like messing with it right now, and losing something

I found the plugs under the front pillar panel and they were plugged in just fine, so it looks like it'll be the ones behind the rear panel that are messed up......I'll post what I find when I find it

and now, I do want manual seatbelts hahahahaa

after u finish pulling your hair on this....

these seatbelts come w/ a lifetime warranty!

call your local dealer & say they're not retracting as they should be...

YMMV, but they should honor the warranty.

there's also an access in the b-pillar to manually retract them back to the shoulder position & just unclick the red button as you get in/outta your seat...

have you checked if there is too much tension on the seat belt? try disconnecting the seatbelt from the buckle/lock that slides and see if that does any good. Other thing to look for is the seatbelt controller under your arm rest in the center console.

by the way, I edited the title of your thread as "friggin seatbelts" don't mean a thing when there is someone else who is encountering a seatbelt issue. Did you read the stickies at the top?

Call 1-800-NISSAN1 and ask them if your year has the seatbelt lifetime warranty. If so, file the report then take it to a local dealer with the report number. They will replace your seatbelt for free. I got mine replaced a few months ago because my seatbelt won't retract (for '95).

This seatbelt lifetime warranty ended somewhere between 2003-2005 when Nissan was bought buy Renault. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

well everyone, thanks for all the input on what to check and to bring it to a dealer, but after just leaving the car alone since yesturday before going to pop off the rear panel, I decided to see if they would work for some strange rease......And what do ya know, my seatbelts have decided to work again, I dunno why my driver side one wouldn't work after I opened my trunk to do something while the car was on, but now, there working again.....This seems rather odd

OK everyone who's been helping with this, ignore the previous post, because my seatbelt crapped out again.......I just popped off the panels and took pix, so whoever can help with this please do....

I did call the nissan number but there closed, so I'll go through al that tomarrow

I figure we I'd take pix and have you all look at what I see, so you all and anyone who may need this sometime can look at these pix

hmmm.......That sux, cuz I was planning on bringing it to the dealer and doing the whole Lifetime Warranty thing hmmmm.........Well someone's gotta fix it, cuz I can't get manual Seatbelts yet.

This is really annoying, I'm just glad I havn't gotten a ticket *knock on wood* cause I've been past so many cops the last like 14hours. Someone in this thread mentioned a Bypass in the b-pillar, but I dunno what part of the mechanism it is.......There's enough pix there so, someone will recognize something

LoL

Don't tamper with this yourself too much. Nissan might void your warranty. If I were you, I'd ask Nissan if they can install manual seatbelts for you so you won't have to go through this again. Also, even after you called 1-800-NISSAN1 and file the report, you have to take it to the dealer to have them evaluate it. When I did it, the dealer was trying to give me a hard time but I shut them up with the report I filed with the Nissan Corp. so they had to fix it.

Also, my car is a '95 and I assume yours is either '89 or '90. They said they stopped making the seatbelt parts for my car a few years ago, so they had to send in a request to have them MADE somewhere, then ship it to t he dealer. So this might take about a month. Just to give you heads up.

But seriously...if you're gonna stick with having the deal fix it with the warranty, you shouldn't mess with it anymore. If they're anal, they'll find the slightest reason to void your warranty. Good luck!

There is a lot of writing here that I didn't read. But all that really needs to be said is, if you didn't abuse the belts, it's warranty and Nissan will replace it for life.

hmmm, yea I wouldn't think the seatbelts would have been treated too bad, after all there only seatbelts, and I'm the new owner of the car, I've had it since 4/30/06......And the seatbelt started working again today......I'm gonna call that nisan number, get what ever I need to get from them, then go to my nissan dealer out here........

yea, I put the panels back the way they were, I never messed with any of the stuff, Just took the pix for you all to see if you noticed something. I'll let ya know if my dealership gives me crap about warranty stuff......

Oh and my seatbelt wasn't working this morning, but now its working again......

I want manual seatbelts now LoL

ok, i can't go out to get some real pics for u & i'm recalling this from memory, so bear wif me...

ok, on the trim panel of the b-pillar, around da armrest @ rear seats, u will see the cover-in there is a female-type hex- soo u will need a male hex bit or something to turn this so it can be retracted manually

that is the female hex that u will b turning i can't get a better look from that pic

I believe u unplug one of those connectors as well? just to keep it from moving forward again until NISSAN steps up & fixes your seatbelts <<shrugs>>

hey.....Thanks I'll do that.......I went to my nissan dealership today, and they just had to order the new seatbelt assembly, it's all free of charge just like you all said, I just have to wait for them to get the parts in, and then I'll get a call and drive down there, and they'll install it all for me

well, you can disconnect the motor as mentioned above & just leave the shoulder points stationary... then just click the belts on/off
