A couple months ago I posted about what I thought was eight year old french fries clogging the tracks of my driver seat. The forum offered advice on unbolting the seat. Problem was the thing was stuck so far back I would have needed some special equipment to get the rear bolts off ... anyway ... the dealership finally took a look and believes the motor is shot, (even though it moves the seat back and forth maybe an inch). They quoted something like $600 to R&R the motor and track assembly. My question now is: Has anybody ever REPLACED this thing? My trusty '95 Q now has 259k and is still rolling sweet.

It is actually very easy to replace yourself. That is if you can get the bolts out. The whole seat should come out to do the job.

This is just a idea, but could you disconnect the seat from under the car. You could perhaps drill the original mounting bolts out, them replace them with a larger size. I've never looked so I really can't help you.

Remove the rear bottom seat so you can get a better angle at the rear 2 bolts/nuts.

Thanks. Going at it from underneath might be a bit funky. But pulling out the rear bottom strikes me as a good idea. I've never had that out either -- I hate to think what's gathered down there -- is there a pull in the front? Or do I yank it up from the rear?

Wow... I've had it out on both of my Q's... if you aren't the original owner and can't vouch for what may have been in there, let me offer some advice.

Have a shop vac and a bucket ready. The shop vac will let you quickly suck up what is likely to be a disaster under there. And, the bucket will give you something to puke in other than the rear footwells when you first lift the seat. A clothes pin to plug your nose may also be necessary depending on the previous owners habits.

I've had mine out recently. It was amazingly clean! Only thing under there was a couple of coins.

But it could get really gross quick if someone spilled soda on the seat.
