I am new to this board and did a search but couldn't find anything on this.I just bought a '94 J30 and the seat heater switch on the drivers side doesn't light up. The heater works fine but no light. Is this a simple bulb replacement or would I have to replace the entire switch?

Thanks!

You can't buy a bulb for the switch, you have to replace the whole switch.

Can you post a link to your ebay items? I did a search but didn't come up with anything. Thanks.

I just replaced the bulbs in both my switches Radio shack part number 272-1092 $1.50 for 2.

Remove the lower black part of the switch from the plug side(do not remove the switch rocker there are little springs and things in there)Once you get the switch opened inside are the contacts in a plastic assembly it can onlygo back one way. That is the only part in this side.

On the black plug section of the switch are 2 brass postsattached to a piece of rubber with the bulb in the middle. the rubber justs unplugs from posts and the bulb leads are threded thru 3 holes in the rubber, for each lead, just like miniture christmas bulbs. Just remove the old bulb install the new one threded the same way cut the excess wire and reassemble. Dont forget to clean any corrosion and lube the contacts.Getting it all back together is a little tricky but it can only fit back correctly one way.

Gerard,Those directions were perfect, and the replacement bulb from Radio Shack worked nicely. (Cheap too..only $1.49 for the pair!)

Anyway, here is a pic of the bulb assembly in case it helps anyone.

The bulbs in the drivers door control unit are also the same, 6 eachbut the rubber holder is half the size so a little more dexterity andfor us oldies a magnifying glass. But with all new bulbs it looks great.

I will try to take some pictures of this procedure this weekend I am changing them for someone.
