So My stupid friend accidently almost set fire to my versa getting out with a lit cigarette. Although he only managed to burn tiny holes in the front seat and scorch a tiny area of it. (Really no lectures on allowing him to smoke in it in the first place I know dumb)

Anyway so I need new seat covers. Which my friend will pay for. I know I have to get kinds that will allow the side air bags to deploy.

Any suggestions? Anyone know what they will cost from a dealer if I have to go that route? I tried calling them this morning but they wanted my VIN which I did not have on me. I really would hate to have to pay $200 for Seat covers!

Thanks!

Look into how much it would cost to just have them re-upholstered. It might be a cheaper route. Down here we'd just drive it into Tiajuana and get it fixed but knowing where you are I'm sure you can find a goodguys deal in Oakland somewhere.

Why do they need your VIN to give you a price on seat covers? That makes no sense at all.

If they punch the VIN into the computer it well tell them the right colour and trim code for your car. No mistakes when the parts get ordered.

BTW don't re-upholster it. Get a new cover. That way there will be no question about the airbags working right. Make your "stupid friend" pay. It's only fair and if he's a real friend he pay with no complaints.

I agree. Go back to factory. Is it worth the risk that the airbags may or may not work if you go with any other option? Also, resale may be more difficult or worth less if this is noticed to be anything but factory spec. I understand that most like to modify their car in some way, but bypassing safety features should not be one of the ideas. Especially if your friend is willing to pay. He wrecked factory = replace it with factory.....

What color is your interior. I have a set of factory upholstery for the front seats because I replaced mine with a katzkin leather interior (I haven't done the rear yet). The set I have is out of an SL with the charcoal interior. Shoot me an email at [email protected].

Thanks everyone. My interiror is beige so black would not be a good match. I may look into just seeing about reupholstery for the seat --- it is just the bottom part that you actually sit on that got messed up.

FYI My parts guys tell me that the bottom cover and back cover of the seat are actually one piece which will be quite expensive to replace.

Have you asked your dealer if he has someone who comes in to do mobile seat repairs for their used car dept? We have a guy that comes to us and does "invisible" repairs for cigarette burns. Though they're not really invisible, they are far,far less noticeable. Most dealers do this to reduce reconditioning costs on used cars.

Good luck.

Your parts guy has obviously never taken apart the seat. The bottom portion and backrest are two seperate pieces. They are both laying on my work bench.

You bring up a good point. My dealership also uses a company like that to make small repairs called Interior Works. It would probably be your best ( and cheapest) solution

There used to be an infomercial that sold stuff that you could repair cloth and leather upholstery. I can't remember the name of it. My dad got it for a chair he had, but it was a single color. Are you seats a single color or do they have the checkered look that comes in the SL's?

i got seat covers at autozone for $20, and they're pretty great. the only downside to them is that they build up static, so you get shocked coming out of the car every now and then.

No link, but here's the name:Axius / 2 pcs. Tan Low-Back Fairfield Seat Cover

Do the autozone covers accomodate the Side Seat Air bags?

No they do NOT address the issue of the side airbags...

"Note: Will not work with Integrated Seatbelts or Armrests. DO NOT cover seats which contain Side Global Airbags."

google is your friend .......

Now is probably not a good time to go to Tiajuana.

At least nothing worse happened! Overall I think smoking while driving in the drivers seat is unsafe, whole one hand driving issue.
