Has anyone put three-point shoulder and lap belts in their 320? If so, where and how did you mount the upper (shoulder) point? Thank you.

I don't know of any, but ADrummond did it to his 521 and posted nice pics on Ratsun.  Just use they're search feature.

Thanks guys! Zenndog, for the shoulder point, do the bolts come out the back side of the cab? Can you see them outside the truck? Thank you.

Tulsadatsun,
The bolts do not go all the way through the cab. There is a piece of sheetmetal which is part of the cab that forms the inside of the cab behind the doors and around the rear window. A second skin so to speak. On my truck you can actually fit your hand up in there, kind of. You can see this if you tilt your seat back forward

Here are the measurements taken off my truck

There is a washer and a nut up in there, it would be best to have a 2" x 3" plate with a hut welded into it to spread the load more if the seatbelts actually need to do there job. Many aftermarket seatbelt retailers either provide the plates with the belts or sell them as a separate kit. Or you can make them. I think I will have to address this as well because whoever put the belts in used big washers. The seat belt retractor is down near the bottom of the door jamb.

Here are the mounts for the seat latches and a picture of the latches, maybe some one on this site might know what car they came from, some kind of nissan i assume.

It does help, and the tape measurements are great, but there's no "F-in" way I'd be able to get a plate up that high without a lot of cussing and a bigger hammer. I'd love to have the 3 point but I think I'll go with just lap belts when the time comes.

You can tack weld a wire or thin metal braket to the plate and push it up in there...once the bolt is tight, you wiggle the wire/bracket until the tack weld pops.  Or, you can drop a fine wire down from the top and pull the plate up.

I did basically the same setup on mine about 10 years ago.  For the nut that holds the top of the shoulder belt I used a square nut.  They're about 3" x 3" and available at most hardware stores. .

Oh yeah, make it sound real easy:) I still think I'd be in a straight-jacket by the time I tried to get the nut to be in the right spot! The three inch square ones do sound possible. We'll see. Wonder what donor the seatbelts came from?

Footnote; I just measured my opening and I'd be lucky to use a 1 1/2 inch nut unless I use a pry bar.

Hey, Somehow i posted twice, can the admin delete one of the postings?

Yeah it tends to be one of those simple tasks that make you loose your hair, because you start pulling it out, but it is worth it!zenon

Zenndog,

Thanks so much for all the time you spent with the explanation and pictures. I really appreciate it. Now I know what I'll spend all next Saturday working on. If anyone else tries this, let us know how it goes.

You didn't post twice.  LilDat quoted your post, pictures and all.  I don't recall which vehicle my belts came from but they also have Nissan logos on them but they are slightly different than the ones you used.  I don't recall how I got the square nuts in place but shoving a pry bar or something up there to keep from going though the cab while drilling the holes.  And my are mounted about 10" from the top so they're a couple inches lower than yours.

Lildat, I put 3 point belts in mine, I'll try and dig up pictures. I used a step drill to make the large hole for the anchor bolt, and 3 smaller holes I would use to tack weld the plate (3" seatbelt anchor with welded nut) to thi inside of the cab.

I then drilled a hole through a short bit(1-1/2 inch or so) of threaded rod or cutoff piece of bolt that fit the anchor nut.

Fished some bicycle cable through the anchor hole and out the bottom where zenndog has his hand in the pic. (put a clamp or vicegrip on the top end so it doesn't slip thru the hole.

Fished the cable through the anchor plate and welded nut, then through the piece of bolt (it must have no head, htat's important) I then used a tiny screw bolt and washers to clamp the cable and keep al that stuff from sliding off.

Then I pulled the bike cable and anchor stuff up the holow part of the cab. Tugged and wiggled gently and before too long the threaded rod piece came through the anchor hole.

I then ran a nut onto the protruding portion of the threaded rod which tightened the plate to the cab inner wall.

Tack weld the plate at the location of the 3 small holes, and you can take off the nut and back the threaded rod out , and you got a welded anchor.

This has not been crash tested, btw :^)

Great idea....very nice write-up!!  I'll look forward to seeing more pics if you have them.  I think you just won my vote for how I'm going to do mine.  Now, I just have to get the 3 point harnesses :) Thanks!
