Hi Folks,

My 90 300ZX has soleniods in both the driver side seat belt retractor and shoulder harness retractor and they energize (with an audible clunk) when the battery is connected (they are always on). Is this normal? What do these solenoids do? I've isolated the power to these to fuse#16 (fuse cover says this is for EGI) but my I can't find any electrical info for this in my service manual (CD).

Anyone have any info on this??

thanks!

Rich

OK, I'll answer my own question (After some more reading and a similar post on a Honda forum); The seat belt retractors have a solenoid to release the belt when the door is open. What tripped me up is there is a switch in the door latch to detect when the door is open IN ADDITION TO the usual switch in the door jamb for the dome light, key, etc. I put a clamp on the door jamb switch, but the seatbelt release was still seeing the door as open while I was pulling the fuse.
