Since purchasing my 2007 M35, I have noticed a slight vibration or noise coming from the Seat Belt Pillar between the front and rear door on the drivers side. It seems to be getting worse (pretty sure my ears aren't getting better) and annoys the crap out of me. My GF also says she can hear it on the passenger side once in a while. It sounds like something inside the pillar is slightly tapping the metal frame when hitting bumps or driving on a rough road. Has anyone in this forum experienced this and is there a fix? I figured I would ask before ripping the car apart. I have popped off the cover but didn't really notice anything that would be causing this. I might have to take it off then take it for a ride. Any help or info is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Someone was recently complaining about that on another forum, recently:

www. fresh alloy.com/showthread.php/171245-2012-M37S-impressions-and-questions

My response was yes - it is the most annoying sound in my M56. Mine sounds more like a constant squeek squeek squeek (as if one piece of leather is rubbing up against another) that occurs when the car drives over uneven roads. My dealership replaced the seatbelt, but that didn't solve the problem. I've had people sit in my back seat and try to locate the exact source of the sound, and we always wind up agreeing it's coming from the seatbelt where it comes out of the pillar. I tried firmly holding the mechanism that raises/lowers the seatbelt height, and that seemed to stop the sound, but I'm still not sure. I brought my car in for service yesterday and the dealership still has it. In addition to that problem, I'm getting the whiny A/C fixed, a fuel line recall taken care of, and 24,000-mile service.

@blastphemy,
Thanks for the response. It's good to know that I'm not the only one.

I ended up having some time this afternoon and decided it was time to get this figured out. I took off the upper and lower seat belt covers. I also took off the lower seat belt bolt so that I could take everything completely off. Once I took it off I noticed that the source of the vibration was coming from the seat belt tensioner mechanism. It is located all the way at the bottom of the pillar. It would actually make the vibration sound by lightly tapping it with my finger. There is only one bolt holding it in. Decided to remove it and find out the cause but after one turn of the ratchet it completely stopped. Tightened it back up and tapped on it a couple of times to see if it would do it and it did not. Put everything back together and went for a long ride on a rough road and the vibration did not occur. Hopefully it just needed to be slightly adjusted but if it comes back, I know where it is coming from and I can investigate the cause further.

Hope this helps anyone that is experiencing the same problem because it was driving me crazy.
