My seat belt light stays on even though it is fastened. Sometimes it goes off after a bit, other times it stays on. I'm going to have it checked out by a dealer, but my question is: If the light is on (even though it is fastened), will the seat belt still engage if there is a collision?

First and foremost...Yes... the seat belt will still be engaged in the event of a collision. Just be sure you hear a metallic "click" when you fasten the seat belt to ensure you have it fastened. In theory, the light itself is just a warning light to let you know you don't have your seatbelt on.

The buckle, when you insert it into the receiver... activates a switch that is supposed to turn the light off. It's not a rare problem in todays cars. Many cars, across all manufacturers have the problem from time to time. It can be something as simple as dirt, food, (French fries etc) that have managed to find their way into the receiver. However more often than not its the wire leading to the switch or even a defective switch. Be sure you take it to the dealer as planned.

If you want to study the circuit, more detail can be found in the SRC section of the Rogues Maintenance Manual.... found here:
