So I bought a set of custom leather seat covers on eBay for my wife’s 08 Rogue S. The back seat was easy and is done, but I need to do the fronts now and I'm a little scared about these air bags in the seats. Looking at the new covers the air bags are attached to the covers and then clipped to the seats somehow. First, how do you disarm the air bags so they don’t pop? Next I've read every car’s air bag system has a delay power of anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple hours after the battery is disconnected where the bags can still go off. Anyone know what this is? Is there anything else I should be careful of? I called the dealer we bought it from and they said disconnect the battery and plugs under the seat and then all I will have to do it bring it in to have the air bag light reset. I couldn’t tell if he was just bsing me or he really knew the answer that fast. Thanks for your help on this I’d like to get the fronts done asap, tonight is possible.

First off, welcome to the forum jstcruzin!

Working anywhere near the airbags can be dangerous if the proper precautions are not taken. The dealer's description sounds about right. Other members have worked on the dash (audio upgrades) and disturbed the wiring. Usually this sets off the airbag warning light which has to be reset, either by the dealer or using a Scan Tool.

For liability reasons, I am not going to recommend procedures on anything dealing with airbags. However, I can point you to the Official Rogue FAQ. In there you will find links to the manuals which will help you work on your Rogue. Hint: Look under the 'Facts' section.

Perfect...saved me a trip to the dealer!! I replaced both front seat covers and no airbag light to speak of. Thank you very much for pointing me to the link(s). Lots of very helpful info there. Ran into a small snag with the lack of me not having the front fold flat seat, but with a couple minor mods all is going to work out perfectly I think. Thanks again and thank you for the welcome. If the wife lets me mod her rogue any more this will be the place I know I can get the inside help. Fog light I think will be the next thing she "needs"
