Hello,

I have searched and found over on the Infiniti tech forum that once the computer sees 195° that it starts to take one degree of timing for every 5° until it reaches a total of 5 degrees of retard at 215°. Is this correct for my car too? (1993 stock ka24de 5spd.)

Recently, I purchased the NissDataScan and I can read exactly what the temp my computer sees, and exactly when the fans come on.

When I purchased the car, it had no clutch fan, only the electric fan inside of the shroud on the radiator.

I've noticed that when the A/C is on, and my car is sitting still, the fan is on. With the A/C on, and my car moving (say above 10~15mph) the fan switches off. The fan will stay off until the car reaches approx 212°~214° then switch back on.

This morning driving to work (pretty much all interstate), the car stayed about 190°~194°. During lunch (stop and go, idling at Sonic) the car got up to about 212°. So far I've seen it get to a high of 217°.

At what point should I start to worry about overheating my car? My brother said that on fuel injected cars it won't hurt them to run 225°-230°. But I wanted to check with the Tech's to see what the consensus is. I don't want my car to overheat!!!!!

Thanks in advance! Kirk

the electric fan is just for the a/c to help move some more air. it will come on when the engine reaches a high temp, but it is more of a backup to the clutch fan that is supposed to be there and isnt ment as a replacement.

Thanks Navysnail.

Any idea of where a good place to buy a clutch fan would be? Junkyard or something like that?

Or would it be better to just bypass the whole thing and get an aftermarket adjustable electric fan, like a FAL or something?

Does someone have a good idea of what is TOO hot for a motor? 210? 220? 230? 963?

Thanks for the input.

I've found a local clutch fan (from Efeezi) and I will try and get that installed and let you guys know how it works out.

Some other people on this forum have had their cars running in the 235°-240° range. So I'm assuming I'll be fine until I can install the fan....

Thanks for the help

When you buy a QUALITY JDM takeout engine the QUALITY companies afix [epoxy] a 225F melting temperature monitor disc to the heads..........if the disc is melted the warranty is denied.

225F for a few seconds is probably ok but under no circumstances should the running temp get above 212F because of the differential expansion effects from iron block/aluminum heads--------stresses head gasket.

Same situation with all aluminum engines........just weakens the aluminum.

Restore cooling system to new specs........don't forget the foam/rubber air surrounds near radiator to prevent hot air feedback flow in front of rad.

THANKS for the help Q45tech!

So anything over 212° is bad. That makes sense because the a/c fan will come one around there to help out the engine fan.

I'll try and get the factory fan and clutch installed this weekend and do a coolant flush with 70% water, 30% coolant, maybe some water wetter. I'll post my results.

Thanks again!

Hey guys (and girls : )

Picked up a stock clutch fan from Efeezi (major thanks to him!!!). And got it installed tonight. Took about 30-40 minutes. Had to figure out how to get out that lower piece on the shroud, and one of my water pump studs was coming out....

Clutch fan works as expected! Was seeing about 185-192 just driving around town, stop and go. Turned on the A/C and as expected, it was getting about 192-197. Drove it on the interstate with the A/C on and it was roughly 197-200. Drove the interstate back with A/C off, and was seeing about 192-195.This was just as the sun was going down, and I would say it was about 88° outside.

My peak temp. during the whole excursion was 201°. So this is a MAJOR improvement.

Thanks for pushing me into putting the stock fan back on! Why anyone would take it off in the first place is beyond me

I'll let you know how hot it gets during the heat of the day tomorrow.

You people RULE!!!!

Thanks again,Kirk
