Seafoam is a petroleum based injector/engine cleaner that you can pick up at Napa parts stores.

If you have an old catalytic converter (as in, you didn't recently replace it) I recommend getting a new one. They say on the bottle its o2 sensor safe, but if you haven't replaced your cat or your 02 sensor yet, better do it now anyway so you can reap the full benefits. My friend 91' Super hicas wouldn't pass emissions, i told him to run some Seafoam thru the tank/booster line and it passed the next time he went. It's good stuff.

I've heard you shouldn't run Seafoam on higher mileage engines. Reason being, sometimes the carbon buildup can hide cracks, leaks, etc...then when you use the seafoam, it removes all the gunk and buildup, and all the sudden you realize that was the stuff holding your motor together

I've never seen that written on the bottle, but I have seen it on a bottle of B12 Chemtool. I guess a good rule of thumb is to check for leaks/compression issues before running some Seafoam the system.

Whoa! The before pics of that engine was terrifying, it looked terrible.

what about the after pics? Do you think they look too good to be true? Does an engine cleaner actually do that well without causing problems? Are there any 'gotchas' to look out for?

The only real problem I heard is oil pan and valve cover gaskets start leaking after use of seafoam. Not for everyone but some. A friend of mine used it in his civic with 145,000 miles no problems. I guess it kinda like switching over to full synthetic, some people have problems with oil leaking after the change. I would say in the long run though I would use it. Replacing a few leaking gaskets isn't too bad.

That's incredible. I don't know if I should believe it or not... but I did get a kick out of his disclaimer...

I've only added it to the gas tank and through the brake booster. My car has 110,000 miles and after I did the treatment it felt like my car was able to pull harder. Idle is smoother, and so is my acceleration. I would have put it through my crank, but I recently had an oil change a few weeks ago. I highly recommend seafoam, but only do it in an open area because the smoke that came from my car was thick, and covered the entire street!

After looking at those pics people wonder why they have timing chain tensioner problems.

I also hear you should replace your plugs afterwards, which is the brakes boost? I was going to take off the crank case breather hose and suck in through the intake that way. Is that a wise idea? Hlaf the can in the tank, a quarter of a can in the crank case and the other quarter in the intake, those were the instructions I was given unless I misunderstood them.

i used that stuff on my freinds wrx and he had a full turbo back exaust with no cat and you wouldnt belive the kind of smoke and **** that came from that car. he got pissed at me because he thought i ****ed up his car, but he ran it for a little time and it got all clear and he ran it and it pulled a good 13.2 from his orriginall 13.5. but i did it on one of my older 240 and it still had the cat, when i got done i thought that my car was slower but smoother, i got bored and gutted my car for ****s and giggles and it was insane how nastey the **** in there was, long story short i got done and it was so much better when i got all done. i did the rest of the car and was amazed at how well it worked.

I use Seafoam in my Datsuns to clean the carb. Works wonders for that. In fact i got a can of it today to run in the 620 truck.

through where do you guys run it? i ran it through the valve cover > intake line(crank case breather hose?) and it did ok, i have noticed that the hesitation that happened around 1-3k rpm has gone, but my idle has gone the bad way.(most likely 1 of my idle controllers is done)

I used sea foam a while back, and while it did fowl all my plugs and 02 and ruined my oil, the car didn't billow tons of smoke. I did it to the womans car, I got a street full. Any reason?

Women don't tend to race their cars... driving at steady RPMs, the engine is more prone to carbon buildup. Most pump gas already has cleaning additives.

Her car could have had higher mileage as well.

I've also seen it stocked at Advance auto parts, which there is 2 within 5 min of my house.
