has anyone tried it on their coupe? I did a google search and some people say doing sea foam will add 10,000 HP and make your car get 1,000,000 mpg. and some say your engine will blow and an Apocalypse will happen.

has anyone here sea foamed your A/C or any other car? what were the benefits?

my car used to get 30+ MPG and now, driving the same way on a 100% hwy road trip I'm lucky to get 24 mpg.

what maintenance should I do to get my MPG higher? I'm at about 55,000 miles. should I do a CVT fluid change? change spark plugs?

Seafoam is reeaaaallly popular with older cars that have much higher mileage. People would use them on their 3000gts and it would work wonders for them by cleaning out all the gunk whether they spray it in their manifold or gas tank. I probably wouldnt recommend using it on a car that only has 55k miles. I dont even know if it would matter doing it to our cars period.

Just get a flush.

Check your tire pressure. That eats up mileage like nothing else.

But I'm interested to see what the issue is. My A/C struggles to get 24mpg on the highway on long trips. I average out on 21mpg no highway runs, and 15 in the city. Right now my average economy is 17.1mpg. This is half city, half highway... with a heavy foot. This is calculated using the app on my phone, as I plug in every fill-up, so it's not the display that's off. This does not seem right at all.

I am taking the car to the shop soon to get some new bolt-ons and a tune. I suspect that the stock tune may have a very rich air-fuel mixture.

Another thought is the fuel. Although I've tried a number of stations (used to be Arco and Rotten Robbie, now Chevron and 76) and almost ruled it out because I haven't gotten better results. But then I realized that Hussain - you have an 08 and are probably filling up 91 octane. Seeing the gas prices in CA, I wouldn't be surprised if the stations are pissing down their fuel with ethanol to push up the octane levels. Ethanol, as you know gives very poor mileage.

I might just fill up 87 this once to see if I get better mileage.

I guess we will find out soon.

Greg did a whole write up on Seafoam a while back. Good thing I have the memory of an elephant.

gas prices got so high, I just started using 87. the thing is, my car still runs like a champ, it's still very fast and drives perfect. it just doesnt pull up good MPG numbers.

ya I saw gregs post a while back, thats what got me thinking about maybe doing it.

I have noticed that I will lose a couple MPG points running 87 as opposed to 93. I have only done that on one or two tanks with mine and I went back to just spending extra on Shell VPower. (the 2010 does NOT require premium fuel nor does it have a label inside the fuel flap... my 2008 said it was "recommended" inside the fuel flap).

If you have never done a CVT flush at 55,000, I would recommend that you do it. Especially if you do any spirited driving. Nissan recommends every 36,000 miles. Also check your air filters.

You do realize the difference between 87 and 91 is only like $3-4 unless you're looking at a 20+ difference between the two. May as well just shell out the extra 3 bucks

My theory is that the opposite holds true. It's hard to explain my s*** poor mileage. Gas stations use ethanol to push up the octane rating of gas. The problem with ethanol, is that it provides much less energy than gasoline. More ethanol means less mileage. I used to have an ethanol test kit, and going from one gas station to another, the results indicated in far excess of the 10% legal limit.

I suspect that using 87 in place of 91 might actually improve mileage, if less ethanol is used in the 87 octane fuel. But if the untreated 87 gas has an even lower octane rating like 84, and is then pushed up to 87 with ethanol - there will be no gain, and probably some loss.

Very nice, you live in a good state :) In the particular Canadian province I live in, the difference in between 87 91 is 14c / L and with an average of 70L fill up, the price variance is in the 9.8 CDN region.

ya its only a $4 difference but I tend to waste more gas using 91. probably because I feel the car being a little faster so I drive it harder lol

Looks like it is about time to spend $750 on the 60k service. My a/c is at 61xxx. Lucky me though, I had my transmission replaced a few months back and i will not require any service on it this go around, so they are only robbing me for about $500 flat. they clean your fuel system and reset all computer junk to factory. Maybe check that out man.

Have you tried resetting the mileage read-out, and running in cruise control at around 65mph to see what you get? That's probably the highway rating the manufacturer refers to, when they say "highway." They don't mean blazing down the road at 120mph, or doing 0-60 runs on every merge.

I managed to get 30+mpg in CVT mode, cruise control, on the highway. Maybe it's just my speed-demoning that costs me gas money and a ~17mpg average city + highway.

ya, on the hwy in "D", cruise control set at 70MPH, reset the mileage read-out and the highest it goes is like 24 or maybe 25. when it used to say like 32 MPG driving exactly the same... I did a CVT fluid change and replaced the air filter and had the mass air flow thing cleaned. haven't really gotten a chance to just hit cruise control on the hwy. but it seems to be a little better on gas. the dealer recommended I get my throttle body cleaned and fuel injectors cleaned soon too... and that my rear right strut is leaking :(

Been using Seafoam for years in all of my vehicles and bikes. I will hit the 3 points about 30k miles.

3 points-
- Can in the gas tank
- Can in the crankcase (oil)

Run it for a tank of gas (roughly 300 miles)

- Can for the top end of the motor thru the brake booster vacuum line. Let it sit for an hour or so then drive the holy-hell out of it.

Change the oil and it's back it tip-top shape.

Seafoam was always good, but was an INCREDIBLE product before they jacked the price up (in recent years).

I did this on a '97 Accord 4cyl and gained about 4MPG and huge improvements in idle, throttle response and smoothed it out across the board.

Good stuf....

thanks! :bigthumb: those are the type of things I wanted to hear. someone who has used it several times, saying how it actually affects the car (or bike).
