OK, so i have been reading about seafoam, and searched alot about it before posting these questions. I know that is cleans out carbon from the engine, and that is a good thing. I also know to pour one bottle in the gas tank, one in the oil filler, and another partial bottle in the brake booster line. But what im asking has to do with mileage. I have been told that in higher mileage engines, it can be bad to clean them out really well because it would cause leaks that were inadvertantly plugged up to open and cause problems. Is this a load of bullsh**? My odometer reads 254,xxx miles on a 90 sohc. the problem is, the motor in it is not the original one, and i have no idea how miles miles there could actually be on it. Would running seafoam through this car cause problems? of is it like k-car says, "magic"? From what i have read it seems to be nothing but good for the engine, and i just want to make sure i wont run the risk of hurting my car before i use it. And yes during the search i can across someone asking the same question, but the response to it was "search" after a thorough investigation, i had concluded that it wont hurt the engine, but would like to hear if anyone thinks that it might. thanks

yea...i was curious because what if you have carbon build up around your pistons and that's what's keeping the pistons nice and snug. If the seafoam clears out that buildup wouldn't the pistons be loose inside? or does seafoam not go into that part of the car.

I believed the same thing would happen. I thought that the carbon buildup help keeped my oil from burning more and leaking but strange enough I put just a little in my crankcase and somehow I haven't been burning oil. Knock on wood I don't burn a lot of oil but I do have to put some in from time to time. I dunno, if it somehow stopped it from burning oil dam that stuff really works.
