I'm one of those, complete idiot types when it comes to cars, and recently acquired an 87 300zx. I have the assistance of a capable friend who believes that sea foam products will help a number of issues that accompany the car I got, but his knowledge of Nissan's is limited. The question is how to access the intake for sea foam use. We've both looked over the how to use sea foam products correctly guide in the forums here, just don't know the easiest way to start the process. I do have a Chiltons manual, but advice would be helpful as well.

Just go by the brake booster line. Its the biggest vacuum source you've got.

Snake oil. It's a detergent but unless there is something to be cleaned it's useless. Is there a problem with your car? If so maybe tell us about it and we can help you fix a problem. Unless your problem is dirty valves, which is unlikely the seafoam will do nothing for you other than make a lot of smoke when you burn it.

It'll help clean egr systems and idle air control systems (provided you feed some through there).

It has a minor sputter while idling, told that likely it is pulling in some exhaust during an intake causing the sputter and missfire, doesn't have a working fuel gauge, old valves and spark plugs and a number of other primarily minor issues that don't keep it from running, simply keep it from running how it might. Trying to get its system clear of junk and corrosion/deposits to be able to accurately figure out what all I might need to do with it in the near future. Though mostly well loved, it doesn't appear to have had anything sent through it to help clear it's throat out,for lack of a better term. Money is a big issue for me, but I'm told I won't regret a sea foam investment to at least start to understand where this car is really at.

It's worth it for the barrel of laughs from the smoke screen alone.

If it's a sputter during idle, try pulling each plug wire one at a time, see if the sputter gets worse or remains the same, once you find the plug that makes no difference you've isolated the problem cylinder, then you can begin swapping parts to find the source of the trouble. I have seen cracked valve seats present a stumble at idle that picks up and doesn't effect a compression test, a leakdown test would help show such a fault. Still wouldnt waste time or money on snake oils.
