A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Car is a 1992 Sentra SE-R with a newly installed JDM sr20de.

I'm having trouble with the speedo registering on the car. I checked what I believe to be the speedo cable (thick wire that runs from the firewall that connects going straight down into the transmission, it is plugged in, then the cover is screwed on, sound right?) and found that the gold end was covered in gunk. I cleaned all that off and made it nice and shiny then connected it nice and tight. Took the car for a drive and it now twitches between 0-5mph. Nothing more. Any ideas? Could it be a bad cable, and if so is there an easy fix, or is this a job for a mechanic?

Pretty common for them to do that once they get old. As long as it works I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh no it doesn't work. All the cleaning did was make it so that it just twitches between 0-5mph but doesn't go past the 5mph line. So my speed is always a twitchy 5mph.

I did talk to a guy and he said that there's a tab of some sort that needs to be lined up and that it's probably not in all the way. I'll check it later tonight.

Yes that would definately be the case then. Sometimes its a PITA to get it to line up. Shine a light on it so you can see how it lines up. Sometimes it will come unhooked from the back of the cluster as well. But you will have to unhook it from the transmission to be able to pull the cluster all the way out to check.
