Hi Everyone -

Was just wondering if any of you could recommend a reputable shop in the SE Michigan area to do some work on our 2008 Rogue.

Both front wheel bearings/hub assemblies are shot (one was replaced under warranty) and the dealership is quoting me north of $1k to do them both.

The vehicle has been 100% dealer-serviced so far (save the tire replacement around 55k..the vehicle has 67k ish now) but I am growing tired of paying dealership rates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton!

-Craig

I've had some work done at the Belle Tire in Novi, MI (off Grand River).
Give them a try?

How can it be that expensive? You can get new hubs off RockAuto.com for less than $50 each. I can't see it taking more than a couple hours.. maybe a bit more to fight with a few rusty bolts/nuts, etc.. But it's really not too big a job.

I'd offer to do it for you (or with you) if I wasn't going to be in the process of moving later this month.. unfortunately I have a lot of packing and not a lot of free time.

I've done our last few sets of tires at the one in Rochester Hills (very close to home) and have had great luck -- I would have never thought to use them for something like this. I'll give them a call and see what they say.

Thanks a ton for the tip.

Oh, I agree 100%. We needed a new foglamp assembly last year, and they wanted $350 for parts + labor. I bought it off eBay for ~$56 and installed it myself.

I checked RockAuto and the 'Pro' brand part # is 29513298 -- does that look right to you?

I absolutely appreciate your offer, but no worries. Best of luck with your move.. that can be a massive PITA!

Thanks a ton for your help!

Just to put your dealer quote in perspective...

I had both front hubs replaced on my Altima for around $800, parts included, outside of warranty. I think they wrote it up as 5 or so hours labor.

Yes, that's the right part.. though, I suppose if I were buying them I woud upgrade to the Moog parts for $69 each. I think they are a better brand.. hopefully will last longer.

Consider buying the parts yourself and bringing them to the shop so that you don't have to pay the retail price on the parts.. that should save you a fair chunk of change.

I have a hard time with the book time of 5 hours for labor. I think i could do the job in my own garage in two or three hours... unless I ran into problems with seized bolts or other rust and decay issues.. And i don't have a lift either.

It's really not that hard.. take off the wheel, take off the brake disk, remove the cotter pin from the axle, pound out the axle, remove the dust sheild plate, unbolt the tie rod (if necessary), unbolt the suspension arms (might not be necessary), unbolt the hub from the knuckle.. remove from the nuckle (might have to pound out with a hammer and then use a dremmel to remove any rust/corrosion before putting in new one.. and then reverse the process. With some air tools and lift that should be maybe an hour per side for a mechanic.
