Hey whats up everyone I have been reading for a while and searching for a while and finally signed up and got involved. Any way this is my question does any one have any experence actually tunning these. I am impressed with both of these systems. But I am leaning toward sds because comes with a basemap to tune from. The reason is I just got a 90 240sx with a blown engine for 200$ and i have removed the engine for the typical rebuild (forged pistons rods ect) and I want to go stand alone soon and I finish everything (custom turbo kit). I know the engine will need breaking in and I do not want to pay for a base map and then break in the engine then pay to have it tuned. Sds seems to be real supportive and a little easer. But Haltech has more features but no on site info on tuning. Is it that hard to create a base map???

haltechs come with a base map, SDS does not come with a base map to my knowledge, I could very well be wrong about that though.

What other stand alones are being used on the 240, SR or KA?...i know that Haltech and Motec have been used, but what are some other options? Is AEM still developing their system for the SR? and is there any news on Nissdata? is it still happening?

The HKS F-Con V Pro is another engine management systerm.

I wonder where all the Nissan tuners live and what they sell to pay the bills?

AEM is still working on their standalone for the SR...I really wish they would hurry up cause it's a really nice setup.

Apex'i Power FC is pretty popular, that's what I'll be getting sometime this summer.

Search the forums for SR20DET.

They have other priorities before the SR20DET.

Sorry, AEM won't comment on when/if they will produce a standalone for the SR20. I'm sure they will because many people have asked for it on their forums but like Koua said, they have more important projects to get out first. From what I hear about their EMS for other cars (especially the supra), it is a VERY nice system. Although it is a relativly new product, it has already made some very imressive numbers...one in particular made 1040 to the wheels and they were able to get it to idle close to stock with the 1500cc injectors.

I dont know about the AEM standalones, but i have heard VERY bad things about other AEM products. I had my own personal nightmare trying to use an AEM fuel regulator, and dont expect any help from their customer service.

I can assure you that the AEM standalone is a work of art. I don't put crap on my cars and I would definately use the AEM. It's very user friendly and uses the stock sensors. I had my doubts about it since most of their products are geared towards hondas but they really did a good job. You will not be disappointed if they produce one for the SR. You will want to get some sort of wide band 02 sensor to go along with it...I suggest the FJO wide band.

AEM= NO NO they have waaaaay too many problems with their standalones. our shop usually ends up sending them back. and then they have to redo it. waste of time. then that goes bad on top of the other. etct etc etc.

They are a pain in the a$$, eventually im sure they will get their s*** together, but i wouldnt go with an AEM for any application.....unless AEM is tuning it at their shop for you. We've purchased a few at eastcoastmotorsports for the gsx and the civic, both sold with in a month, not because of bad results, just preference towards haltech and electromotive...

I find that funny as we have had no problems with the AEM units. Several people I know are using it on their cars with no problems and absolutely love it. Mabye the product they produce for the Supra is just a superior unit to the others they produce

Im talking about the race program, not the application for specific cars....the plug and play one would obviously be pretty simple to use : )

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention the great tech support that AEM has...everyone I have spoken with has had nothing but great things to say about how helpful their staff has been. Obvliously, if you don't know what you're doing, you will run into a lot of problems but I wouldn't be so quick to blame the actual unit for your difficulties.
