So I just picked up a spare motor for rebuild, including a partially ported head. Looking closely at the intake manifold and head, there seems to be some room for some more porting. But I can't help but want to delete those big-*** restrictive flaps for the swc. I want to completely remove the butterflies and the shaft so that I can fill the holes before I finish porting. From the description of their operation, they only work at idle.Has anybody had any luck or problems from completely deleting the system? I can't be the only one that wants to get rid of these...

Search only came up with inconclusive discussions.

They are not needed.

It seems like it is only used to keep emmisions down at idle. But I don't want to cause any driveability or low/rough idle issues either.

If your idle control sutff is working properly, you should be fine, but maybe someone who has done this on a bone stock car should chime in.
