I haven't scuba'ed before, but I've been snorkeling a few times. I snorkeled in the kelp forest off of Catalina Island back when I used to be in Marine Biology honors class. Fun times...

it wasnt past the NDL. but it did require a safety stop, i didnt have enough air. and my buddies were to far away to use theirs. thankfully i didnt get hurt though.

we were using nitrox 32%, not air.

How much and how long does it take to get scuba certified? I debated taking a course over the summer, but opted for rock climbing instead.

uxo= unexploded ordinance. a bomb or round that didnt explode.

underground57, it took me about a week and 200$ here in japan, but i hear it cost a lot more in teh states. a guy i dived with a coupel times told me he paid 500 or 600$ in NY.

Ah, nitrox.

It cost me about 500 here (in CO). Took two evenings for the book and pool stuff, then a couple afternoons for the open water stuff.

was that 500 for open water and nitrox? it took i think about 7-800$$ for everything up to my rescue diver certification. i wanted to get divemaster but i ran out of time and i leave okinawa this weekend.

No, just open water. I haven't had a chance to get farther certified yet.

Took the class 7-8 years ago. Never did the open water dive to get certified.

I did go diving in Puerto Rico. 30 min class, gave us the gear, and hopped in the water...
