So, it's looking like I'm gonna get screwed from Japan Direct on my motor. The number 2 Piston has a hole in it. That explains why the car floods out and will not start until you pull the fuel pump relay. Anyway, my question is should I just buy another SR20DET longblock, or should I just rebuild the entire motor. I already have GT28RS turbo, 550 injectors, and Z32 MAF. So, I'm in a Dilemna. Opinions? Supposedly, a chunk is missing from the number 2 piston. I just hope it didnt bounce around in my block or head.

depends on how much damage was done to the cylinder walls. If the wall is scored, you're gonna have to see if a machine shop will touch it. If they do, you'll probably have to go with oversized pistons since you'll be boring out the cylinders to get around the score marks.

No it doesn't, the other cylinders would still fire and start the same.

Odds are that you have a blown headgasket along with the piston due to detonation.

I would rebuild it with ARP headstuds and a MLS headgasket. You have enough flow for good power, might as well build the motor while you are at it. Basically put in some 86.5mm forged pistons, bearings (all), stock rods (have them checked), and reseal the motor with a good headgasket and some ARP's. You are good for 500+whp on that build, which is more than the turbo can push.

When you install a thicker headgasket, shave the head, etc. it can change your cam timing. You might wanna look into adjustable cam gears while you are at it.

Hmmm, okay. That does sound like a reasonable plan. I have somebody that will do all the labor and machine work for $800. I just hope the head is in good shape. Don't want to spend extra for new valvetrain components. Which brand Pistons do you reccomend? JE, Wiseco? Thanks for the input.

Okay, thanks. I just wonder the odds of that piece of missing piston flying around in my head and damaging it. I guess I have to just check when I take it apart. Also, going with those size pistions, is it still reliable? I know cylinder wall thickness plays a role in something right?

You would know pretty easily if it was loose in the chamber.

I bet it just fell onto the sump baffle.
