soo i had a sale fall through, was waiting to get someones paypal info so i could send them their money with no response, turns out they sold the stuff local, would have been nice if they could have told me that.. but i can work with this, got my heads off tonight and i was in waaaay worse condition then i thought! :frown: first pulled the timing cover off, to check things, and the belt had only skipped like 4 teeth on the crank lol looks like all my exhaust valves barely kissed my pistons, they were leaking on a leak down test, but not that bad, im impressed the car pulled as hard as it did like this though, in this condition with nothing more then an intake and exhaust, it pulled quite a bit harder then a stock tt..

now to pull the heads, got them off and their is residual signs in the cylinders of rust, guess they had water in them at one point :tisk: and my number 2 cylinder, well its seen better days, im assuming its where the piston sat for a long time, about 2 inches long and a 1/4 tall is a rough spot, enough to get my finger nail in it, and im sure if i had gotten to 400+ hp that i was aiming for it wouldnt have lasted long.. there is some normal wear in the rest, you can still see the hone scratches, but the cylinders arent pretty. actually i think someone was in it recently, and im pretty sure they reused the same head bolts..., one was just about stripped, i s*** my self the first time it slipped, was able to hammer another allen into it, phew! not to mention the valve covers that were siliconed on! geeze..

anyways looks like im building myself a new engine! gonna strip down to bare block and hot tank it and go from there, first i need some bigger pistons to bore out my messed up cylinders, looks like it going to be wiseco.. budget is a big thing, i have roughly $2000 to play with right now and hopefully more to come as i sell more toys.. so i think im going to base the build around that

first question, how much of a gain do i get from eagle rods over stock rods? this will be a daily driver, so i figure anything over 600 whp is just stupid.. anyways being that it already has forged rods, what makes the eagles so much better?

next question is when im pricing out gaskets, can i get away with cheap no name gaskets? i assume i should get a good head gasket though.. should i splurge for an mls?

i guess thats where im at, plus i still need to get turbos now.. again.. and being that ill have forged pistons guess i could go bigger? maybe sport 600? i do like the price of the gt525..

sorry if all my postings lately is getting annoying, just curious what some of yall might do in my situation, just looking to get the engine done right now, electronics, controllers, intercoolers, thats all further down the road.. im anticipating around $4000 to get the car done

as soon as my smart phone is fixed ill get some pics up :bigthumb: thats a plus right.. haha looks like ill be taking my next semester of college off, my ex will be glad to see ive matured :gapteeth: lol, gotta pay the price to drive the dreammmm..

Well...the first answer I give will cover much of the rest of your questions- you say you're staying under 600HP and the OEM engine is good to 600HP, so really you need to change nothing such as rods/pistons/etc. unless damaged, and you'd just go OEM replacement. The Wiseco pistons are popular mostly for name recognition in under-600 builds, they are meant for high HP applications and same with the upgraded rods- for taking a beating and performing up to standard. Same with gaskets, go OEM only or the kits that come with turbos, etc.- no cheaping out on a VG30DETT or you WILL be sorry.
With the turbos you'd be best off with 530bb turbos that will mostly (with DP's) bolt to stock exhaust (saving you $ there) and are good to 530HP approximately, and almost no lag unlike nearly all other turbos. You'll need air/fuel management to make it all go, and even with this lower cost setup you'll need well more than 2 grand to be installed, running, and tuned...more like 4-5 grand minimum with you doing all the work. NOT a cheap platform, and nearly zero low cost alternatives other than sales at the vendors and buying online.
Good Luck!

Ya 2 grande was definatly a low ball, i realize now id be lucky to keep it under 5.. Ive kind of got it all planned out, my cylinders werent the prettiest so ive got 87.5mm wiseco piston in the mail right now to clean those up, went ahead and ordered a set of eagle h beam rod for saftey and incase i ever wanna go for more power, everything is at the shop right now, having my heads rebuilt, getting my gaskets and bearings all through his supplier, so i hope theyre stock? Or good quality, hes one of the most reputable shops around so i didnt really look into the stuff he said he could get, i think for him to get all my bearings timing belt and gaskets its $180! I could have got pistons for another 100, but i wanted forged.. Ive already spent 2k and havent even bought my turbos yet lol..but i think i got a good deal with the hook ups my buddy got me at his shop, bkre and hone, polish crank balnce entire rotating assebly and completly rebuild both heads is just under 1000 bucks.. But i do need 12 exhaust valves.. So ehatever thatll cost

Sounds like you're on the right path, and if the guy knows his stuff what he got should be right.
Only thing I'd say again is to look at the 530bb turbos, for street and your goals I think they'd be best for that plus cost and installation as they don't need clocking or any other modification beyond downpipes to replace the stock FPOS's.
