I was slightly bored today and thought my engine cover needed a good cleaning so I removed it and as soon as I popped it off at the front of the engine I saw this

Without my baby fingers

Literally a screw right into a vacuum line coming from the engine at the very front drivers side. It was even leaking as when I pulled the screw out and capped it with my finger the engine idled a little better.

So my question is where is it supposed to run to? I dont see any open male ends and it looks like the line was cut and capped and tucked under the cover

:gotme

Can you get a pic farther from the bay so we can see the vacuum line in relation the the engine? It looks like it could be the line that's supposed to go to the swirl valve actuator, but I can't be too sure.

Yeah take a picture a bit farther from the engine bay with an arrow or something showing the location of this, i was going to go check, but i dont know exactly where that is, im thinking right in front when you take off the 3.5 cover.

Ya its right at the front of the engine closer to the drivers side

Its not the swirl valve vacum line, you can see in my pic the vacum line for the swirl valvew, about 1" below the one Im pointing at, running the same direction if that helps

My girls out at a christmas party and took the camera so I can get pics later if needed

I was hoping it was a line for my factory intake system or something.

The car came with a CAI (CUSTOM) so I dont know

I was browsing the fsm and couldnt find a good overall vacuum diagram, I suck at searching that damn document, they put things in spots I would never think to check lol, I need to learn more tech lingo

Yeah, when I installed my K&N intake I had a barb for that hose but the '03s don't have that hose. It should still be connected to the intake. The question is, what is on the other end of that hose?

So you think I should drill and tap in a barb on my intake and add that line to it? Before the MAF Im assuming

your QX4 is running great otherwise, so why mess with it? fold a kink into that vacuum line and tie a rubber band around it. (or find some "fancier" way to plug it.) put the plastic cover back on and be done with it. obviously it's not that important. if the K&N kit is designed to plug that line, how important can it really be?

I think you may have found the source of your P1110 code. The vacuum hose diagram is in the emissions section of the FSM.

Sorry, poor choice of words on my part. I meant to say barb, not bung.

How could this possibly cause P1110?

Canada sucks so much none of the auto parts stores carry 3/16" vacuum tubing so I had to order it. I plan on redoing all of the vacuum lines after taking a hard look at my motor, alot of the lines were in very poor condition

I dont get how this could cause P1110 though

With a plugged hose I can safely say that you're not getting vacuum to some component that in some way affects the intake sensor. I'm not sure either other than to say that the vacuum system and the P1110 intake sensor are on the same diagram of the emissions system so they are in some way tied together.

Page EC-26 of the FSM has an excellent diagram of the vacuum hose routing. You should be able to figure out where the hose goes by studying the diagram. There's a lot of good reading in this section that may explain what's happening.

Get the blanked off hose plugged in to the correct spot and I suspect your code will go away.

Ya I seen that diagram but where they all bundle up in the picture I find it impossible to follow the one I painted in green in my above post. ON EC-26

They do all appear to go to the intake side, but its hard to tell what any of them plg into, especially since I no longer have the oem parts after installing my cold air intake

Changed all my vacuum lines today, just a pic to show how bad my oem ones were, they "looked" fine but after rubbing them with my fingers, they practically fell apart.

LOOK HOW BAD THEY WERE HOLY JUNK!!

you could've used 5/32in / 4mm ID vacuum hose. most auto parts stores will carry that size, even in Canada! ;)
