I do this for every car with a touch screen. Worked beautifully on my most recent sale of 2017 Pacifica to Carmax last week. I forgot it was on there and "failed" to inform them about the modification
The X5 I sold to Carvana today did not have a protector because I stupidly assumed it didn't need one because it wasn't a touch screen. Numerous fingerprints and greasy haze that I had to clean off because of "certain drivers".
Also cleaning a stock plastic touch screen with anything other than water and microfiber cloth can damage it. Hand wipes are not recommended (that is manufacturer, not me). Nissan recommends only damp cloth with water to clean the interior.
I don't have to worry about the Rogue screen.
I got this unit off Amazon or ebay.
It is for 8" and will not fit 9" as some reviewers complained, but it clearly stated 8" in the description.
It is tempered within a glue matrix so it should not pose any additional risk in a crash. Far less risk than a pano roof (which I hate) where if it shatters in a crash, one picks out glass from the scalp for 6 months. Don't ask me how I know.
There are universal plastic units one can make a template and cut to fit if glass is a concern.
