Hello

About two weeks ago, I replaced my pulley with the ASP pulley. I have a 1991 w/ the KA24DE. I bought the appropriate belts, and installed them after removing my old worn out belts. Now, when accelerating, I hear a screeching type noise, that I assume is one of the belts slipping. Is this correct? If so, do you have any idea which of the 3 it would be, or should I check by hand the tightness of each belt? Thanks in advance!

Matt

Sounds familiar.Does this only happen when its really hot out, or the engine is very hot?

Yup its your belts alright.. just press down on each belt and tighten the ones that are loose.

The other problem may be that the pulley isn't on completely all the way, so its wobbling and that will cause the belts to screech also.

By the way, how's the car with the ASP pulley? Do you notice changes? And how's the idle?

I dont think its the pulley, I'll just have to tighten the belts more. Car idles fine with the pulley, seems to go through rpm's faster but i cant say that ive noticed any considerable HP gains, altho as my signiture shows, I dont have alot of power mods yet. I'll go check the belts this afternoon. Thanks!

If it's like that screeching you get when you turn the steering wheel in a undercover car park, I found that if you rub a dry cake of soap over your pulleys and belts the noise will just go away. That is so long as you have sufficent tension on the belts in the first place.

I'd check the alternator belt first. It's not that hard to tighten it up. Mine did the exact same thing, sqeeled in the mornings when I started it up, then when away after it ran for a little bit. Took all of 15 minutes to do, and like posted earlier, you might as well check all the belts.
