Car: 1998 Nissan Altima 76K miles. Aftermarket: springs, struts, rims, tires, rotors and pads.

I’m having a screeching/screaming sound coming from the left front wheel, it has been like this for quite some time, and recently it starts to really tick me off.

Noise isn’t affected by breaking or accelerating, but does go away when making a turn. (it isn’t the dust shield rubbing against the rotor)

Noise appears after 20-25 minutes of driving like a clock.

Noise will start only from 15-20mph and get louder with speed, below 20mph it will just disappear.

Any ideas?

how are your pads? if they are low the wear sensor will rub against the rotor and make an awful racket (loud screech regardless of braking condition

i replaced the pads, and the noise didn’t change,

again the noise isn’t effected by breaking at all, so its something else, maybe the axel bearings...?

I did but you covered that. It seems to me it would have to be a backing plate rubbing the rotor. You may be onto it thinking it may be the bearing. Did you put the brake shims back in when you replaced the pads? If you didnt you could have typical brake squeel which is usualy eliminated by those shims. are the pad retainers correctly positioned on the torque member? could they be rubbing the rotor?

Ok that gives me some places to start looking, this weekend its taking apart the whole braking system (again) and see what’s going on.

thanks

Might be a long shot, but when was the last time you changed your belts? I had something similiar with my 240sx, this screeching noise (it would happen sometimes, then far more often) it sounded like it was my tires. As if it was slipping and couldn't grip, well it ended up being the belts ><
