does anyone else have a problem similar to this.. i have a sr20 with a nissan quest alternator. it used to chew up my belts till i adjusted it.. now.. when i turn on the car 50/50 chance its gonna screech like hell during the start up for like 30 seconds.. then theres no problems.. also if im using alot of electricity like windshield wipers dome light head lights music all at once.. sometimes it will start squeaking for a little...and if i almost stall out it will squeak like hell for like 2 seconds.. any ideas?

Ok, First of all, wrong forum . It happens, just remember next time, post in the rite forum.

Anyway, did you just bolt up the quest alternator or did you do the necessary modifications to make it line up right? From the last time I checked & test-fitted, the pulley is off slightly compared to where the stock one lines up - this may be causing your squealling.

Other than that, it has to be either your belt is too loose or too tight. If it's been on too tight (or slightly off like the previous paragraph), it could have put too much stress on the pulley bearing.

thanks thats what i was thinkin i just needed another opinion .. i modified the alternator by shaving off part of the alternator where the pully sits with a grinder. i guess i gotta fix it up a little more.. is there any alternator that just fits without griding the shell?

for sr20... not that i know of.

You MIGHT be able to use ka alternator w/ sr pulley, if iirc. the problem w/ teh quest alternator + sr pulley is that it doesn't fit. ka alternator is not as thick I believe, or something like that.

Don't quote me on it tho, I don't have SR, just remember reading something like that.
