when i raise my idle in my q I'm having trouble find where this screaming sound coming from i think it might be coming from the front of the motor .it sound like this might be the fan but not sure . the sound increases with more throttle and slow down way after the rpms come back down . if this is my fan how can i clean it and if its not, than what could this be . my conclusion are fan, fan belt , water pump ,alternator,

thanks EJXA Q45

possibly the fan clutch has expired, locking fan speed to engine speed, causing all the racket! part is about 130.00 from joe-easy 4 bolt install.

Dual Electric Fans

Seriously though, you either need to get a new fan clutch or find someone with an extra thats in good condition.

Also running it with the clutch seized is risky. There is a possibility of shearing the bolts off & having the fan bounce around in the engine compartment uncontrollably.

If its an idler pulley you could just have the bearing replaced.(Assuming of course the pulley itself isn't damaged)

I wouldn't say it's the fan clutch if it's a squeal... much more likely to be the belts. Fan clutch failure should be more of a roar if it's locked up, or simply not spinning fast enough under hot conditions. Idler pullies (their bearings) are a very common issue... fan clutches fail less frequently - and I've never heard of one squealing.

the fan cluch would not go and still spin right, so when i was looking at this problem,i found that it might be a water pump.i think the coolant is also is not making its way in to the pump. the squealing, might be the belt on the pump not spinning right .i look at a pump and wont to know if this one, is the one to get.it leaking coolant from the left side of the radiator and can see the chemicals oxidized this is also why i think this is the problem.

The fan could either spin, or lock completely if the clutch is bad. The clutch should have less tension while cold, and more while hot - but never completely lock.

The part you show is the water pump... check to see if there's coolant coming from the weep hole on the bottom side. A dental mirror is helpful for this. When you say it's leaking from the left side of the radiator, do you mean the radiator is leaking - or you think coolant that's leaking from the pump is slinging over onto the radiator?

Either way, if you have a lot of coolant under there, it will tend to cause belts to slip as it drips on the belts.

i do not think it is my fan clutch because the fan spins fine and would not really go bad . i just though that it might be around that area. after looking at it closely and starting the car the belt squealed right when i gave it some throttle from the water pump. it sounds like the water pump is bad so i open the coolant cap no anti freeze was recalculating to the pump .when i said that there is coolant leaking out of the radiator i said that it was oxidized with chemical stains so assuming that the radiator is bad the water pump would also be bad in theory .the sound is coming from around the water pump and if not I'll just

Gotcha... don't forget that you won't see water circulating until the thermostat is open after the engine warms up. If the water pump is leaking - I'd replace it and then go from there...

Good luck!

easy test for determining if fan clutch is bad-let engine completely cool{overnite if possible} then open hood and try to spin the fan by hand while engine is off..... if fan spins easily,it is not "locked" and ok,if fan doesnt spin freely, clutch is bad.

Now it sounds like a loose belt to me, and you should add some antifreeze.

Is there any loose or torn stickers on the fan or possibly any cracks on the inside of the fan. It has a metal ring on the inside of the fan and if it's loose it could scream. I would inspect the fan for any loose material or cracks.

the fan is cracked but i don't think that's it.i think its an idle pulley.its the one on the driver side maybe event the power steering. i have the fan clutch, and will replace it when i do the water pump. thanks i will check this out.

p.s need a part # for this pulley it was in a forum a week ago thanks
