No they are not legal. What it will do is vent the wastegate (actuator) gasses out atmospherically...that equates to loud noise and fireballs! It also means more hp.:D

The good thing though is that your wastegate isn't always open...it just spews out the excess boost so it will probably only happen when you are driving hard.:)

do you mean legal for street use, or legal for track use? It has to come out at a car at a certain spot, and in NY the law is that "you can not modify the stock exhaust system in any way"...so its totally illegal to do anything aftermarket technically, which is why they can give you a ticket for a exhuast 'too loud' without measuring it...so it would be illegal here, you'd have to check your laws, but i assume its illegal in PA also.

It is such a loose law. what if my factory exaust is rusting off, im not allowed to get a new one? Seriously, any exausts put on after the factory one is concidered aftermarket because its not OEM

Well you're supposed to have an OEM replacement muffler to put in place...it technically wouldnt be modifying the system...they would explain it by, 1. putting a muffler on that makes the car louder, or a bigger muffler. 2. removing cat. 3. increasing piping diameter etc etc.

it is a rediculously loose law, and cali as other states have a much more sensible law by saying it can not exceded certain decibles, but in NY, they can just give you a ticket...

The worst part about it, is if im stopped next to a 5.0 mustang, and his stock idle is much much louder than my 240 with a apexi N1, i will get the ticket, while he is just allowed to drive by, because he did not modify, and i did.

Its a crapy law imo, and needs some fine tuning, but they like it being loose, because it gives them more leway.

If they took that law seriously it would put so many places out of buisness and a lot of people would loose their jobs... :(

Jesse - why do you assume it is the same in PA? My home town will give you a raft of sh1t about a loud exhaust, but i've never seen a state cop mess with anyone..

I have gotten harrassed for no reason by county police for my 'loud' exhaust....

and on the other hand, i've gotten pulled over for speeding, no inspection, no front plate by a state trooper, and he didnt even mention my exhaust at all...

i have no idea what the laws or whatever are in different states, but if i had to guess, i'd think it would be similar,....again, just a guess

But i dont think side exit exhaust are legal on street cars at all, and i think thats what he is asking....now i know you'll say "what about stingrays' or whatever, but they are a classic car, and oem.

i also mean by 'exit in front of front tire', i dont know if it would be legal to have a side exit come out right infront of the rear tire or not....

come to think of it...it might have to just exit behind the passenger cabin to be legal...i guess you'd have to look it up to be sure, lol

The reason im asking how big the fireballs are is so i can know if i can mount it underneath the car where they cant see it.....

So a screamer pipe is just like a dump pipe, but it doesnt go back into the intake. So you will have to run a pipe out of the engine bay. and this will shoot flames? Wont a DP then with not cat shoot flames out the exhaust?

man i was wondering what the hell you guys were talking about, thne i looked at the pics, The dsm guys do this all the time, i had it on my eclipse "poor man's external" is what i called it, mine never shot flames to the best of my knowlege, but i can tell you it was my favorite mod, at wot it sounds like a 747, i actually scared a trans am driver with it once, as soon as i got on it he let off and hung back, so that gets my thumbs up as far as mods go, you can prob get a machine shop to alter your turbo extension pretty cheap, cut the hole for the wastegate, then weld shut the hole where it would go into the exhaust, my friend got it done for like 20 bucks

well in the dsm world we called them open dump or 02 dump mod, which imo sounds a bit more manly than screamer pipe..lol :dogpile

I had this setup on my civic si witht he drag 3 kit and a tial wastegate. My pipe ran right infront of the drivers side tire. Was not loud at all under normal driving due to wastegate closed but when boost hits peak then it opens up. Great fun whne you race someone and he is on the drivers side. Does not shoot fire ball. but has a good size flame that can be seen at night

At one time mine dumped right above the a/c compressor and did not do any damage just mad a bit of mess. Exhaust can make things dirty. I would route it to the fender because when the WG opens its going to be dumping the exhaust in your engine bay and most of the time it will be sucked up in your dash vents and make the car smell like ***. The pipe in the fender or under the car is much better. On my drag 3 civic si we lost a bit over 15hp when i tried to route it back in the downpipe. This has been proven on honda sites tons of time that open WG is the best for power. Just put it where you cant smell it. hope this helps

I was also looking at these. I emailed those guys and they told me that they werent too sure if the sreamer pipe would clear the steering column. If you get one, let me know how it fits. If you talk to them and they tell you something different, let us know. Maybe we can get a few at a better price.

does anyone have a picture of one installed? $250 is stiff as hell to pay for a pipe you can weld yourself...

by the way the prices on that japanese motorsport site are rediculous. $95 for a test pipe? $550 for camber correctors? $300 for a used cd player???

maybe i'm just a cheap bastard heh
