I have a 2000 Nissan Sentra SE (pearl white), and there are some minor scratches in my hood. It's not anything majorly noticeable; however, it bothers me... I'm trying to keep the car in top condition to increase its resale value... I'm planning to keep it at least two more years, as it is otherwise in excellent condition...
I had a garage sale, and I had placed some clothing items on the hood of the car, and the zippers from various clothing items scratched the paint in several places all over the hood of the car. There are at least a dozen scratches on the hood of the car - while they are not immediately noticeable, I know they are there...
Anyway - I had the local Nissan dealer access the situation, and he said that they have a two stage paint enhancement process that involves burning off the clear coat and reapplying it. Obviously, by reapplying the clear coat, the hood of the car will appear brighter than the rest of the car...
I need help deciding if it is worth me getting the clear coat reapplied on the hood of the car, and my questions are as follows:
Will the "brightness" eventually fade, or will the hood with the new clear coat continue to remain brighter than the rest of the car? (I've asked four different service technicians, and so far two have said there will be a noticeable difference, and two have said that the difference will not be significantly noticeable - so I don't know who to believe...)
Would you recommend I have the clear coat applied or would it be better just to live with the scratches? (According to the Nissan service associate, most of the scratches are in the clear coat.)
I would welcome any input from anyone with knowledge on this topic, as my automotive knowledge is somewhat limited. Thank you, in advance, for any help you can provide.
