Okay I am pissed that my black 09 Rogue already has scratches and a small dent in all 4 doors already from people either hitting their doors into the side of my Rogue or grocery carts hitting it. I try to always park the farthest away from other vehicles as I can but still there is always someone with an old beater that will park beside me. Since my Rogue is black it is really easy to see the white scratches on my doors which I will need to now get re-painted. I do not want to have to get it re-painted every year so I am looking for a solution to stop this. I see that the 2011 Rogues have the chrome mouldings on the doors, do they help protect the doors much? Also I seen websites that there are foam pads that suction cup to the doors but these can be taken off very easily and do not look that good. I thought about getting black painted mouldings for the doors but I think this would be more for looks then protection against doors dings. Anyone have a solution that I can permently affix to the doors that won't look ridiculous?

You could try to find a local installer that will install a 3M clear bra on your car and get a quote. They can usually put it on just about any part of the vehicle, in any way/shape/position you desire. You could look into having a decent sized strip installed that goes the length of the doors.
That'd really only protect against scratches though. And you may be able to see the edges if it doesn't cover the whole door. (or not, I can't say for sure.)

I am not sure how good the 3m tape would look especially after repeated washing and waxing around it. I think it would start to peel after awhile. I am wondering if door mouldings would offer any protection?

Door moldings will offer protection, provided they're adequate in size. They need to stick out a fair bit.
On the truck I had before my Rogue, it had moldings in the shape of a rounded triangle, and they stuck out a full inch at least. One time I was meeting a friend in the parking lot and she carelessly slammed her door into the side of my truck. Fortunately, it only hit on the molding, and did no damage to the molding, door panel, or her car. (well, her friend's car)

One way to test if the size is adequate is to get the dimensions for the molding you intend to put on. Mainly, how far it sticks out. You can then take a yard stick and hold it vertical, X distance away from your door. (X being the distance the molding will stick out) If you're able to hold the entire yard stick perfectly vertical X distance away from the surface of the door, with the molding being as near the middle of the door as possible, and NOT have the yard stick contact any other part of your door, then that proves that installing the molding would decrease the chance of someone's door opening into you doing damage, significantly. However, make sure it's not super close. Because the molding will flex when it absorbs the impact of the other car door. Make sense?

But yeah, I know how that goes...coming out to your car after a day of work and finding a nice dent in it from some careless idiot who parked next to you...
Only other word of advice...park as far away as you can. I know you already said you do, but our definitions may differ. I mean at the very END of the parking lot if you have to. Always park in an 'end-space' if possible too; and park as close as you can get the vehicle to the curb. And if there's no curb, park over the lines a bit. Do whatever you can to get away from the general population.
I do all of the above, and I've only had two incidents with people scratching/dinging my Rogue. And people here treat cars as being disposable. Whether they're their own, or not.

I found these mouldings painted but not sure if they would stick out enough to provide any protection.

Does anyone have these? If so could you post nice pics of your car with them installed... Thanks

I have a parking spot in my building and this stupid B*%#H keeps hitting my passenger side door with her driver side door! I have a black rogue and she has a silver Murano. There must be 20 marks from her door on my car. I even asked her nicely months ago not to do it. I'm so pissed that I have to deal with this kind of s*** in a parking garage.

BTW, does anyone know what those moldings are made of in the link Jostudly posted? Are they rubber? or are they plastic that will just have the paint chipped off?

If applied properly 3M vinyl will not discolor or peel..it is recommended that you peel it off every 6 years(don't quote me on that though)
also as stated above you will have to apply it to the whole door or you may see the edge

the door mouldings may protect the doors BUT what about vehicles that are higher up such as SUV's, trucks, minivans??? :)

Could you take pictures, have a bodyshop give you a quote and present the inconsiderate one a bill for the damage? Afterall, she has repeatedly hit your car. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Also, people leaving their grocery carts to roll into someone's car. So rude and lazy. I was sitting in my neighbor's Subaru while she went in to a shop. I still had my belt on, and I saw this cart heading straight for the car. It looked like a comedy routine, me trying to unbuckle in time to get out and stop it...unfortunately, my fumbling wasn't fast enough and it left a huge dent over the front tire. Anyway, try presenting her with a bill for damages and maybe since it will affect HER she will be forced to be more considerate.

Yes I can take pictures of it. Yeah I was thinking of reporting it to the police and/or my insurance, so that my insurance forces hers to pay for the damage. Not sure how that works.

I am wondering if I get the side step bars installed on the bottom of my doors if this will prevent door dings?

Nope. I still get people hitting my door. I just try to park away from other cars usually lessens it. I even got the side door moldings just for decoration. I was about to stick the moldings on top of a sratch where another car hit it. But it was too low and would not look right. I just use the moldings for decorations anyways.

Most people have Suv's and trucks, on top of worrying about cars. So there are so many heights you would have to worry about. Try to park next to curbs or expensive cars.

As for small parking spots , co-workers, or apartment dwellings, it all luck of the draw when it comes to dents. Always some inconsiderate person out there. :gotme

I recently got an idea in another forum, never applied it though. A person said park as if a mini cooper was in front or in back of your vehicle. I presume leave that amount of space. I thought of it and never tried yet. But you can try to align the Rogue where their door would hit your Wheel well area and hit your tire or maybe your mirror if it is the lesser of two evils. At least this will cover the inconsiderate front driver and passengers of other vehicles.

How much would the factory side mouldings that are standard on the 2011's cost? It looks like they would fit all models.
