Scratch Shield and clay bar

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have sent e-mails to three vendors of clay bars (Meguair, Clay Magic, and Mothers) trying to get a definitive answer as to whether or not it is safe or advisable to use their clay bar on Scratch Shield paint - no response from any of them. Internet search yields a few opinions, but nothing authoritative. Infiniti has nothing helpful to contribute, either....
Have any of you used a clay bar on Scratch Shield paint?

I do not have an answer for your question and it is a great question. I used to use a clay bar on the G35 and did wonders but that was before the Scratch Shield. Have you tried to contact Zanio? Great products. I can only imagine that all of the companies are afraid to respond for legal liability reasons so absent anything else, you may want to try it on a lower body part behind the wheels to see how it does.

This bird crapped on my hood today, I cleaned it immediately after coming home today but I can't seem to get rid of this:

Will the scratch shield eventually smooth that over, will claybar fix that or is there something else I'll have to do? Freaking birds look for the clean car to nail I swear!

scratch X. This is good for this type of etch in the paint. I've used Scratch X on my ex as well, no problem...

WOW. That bird crap looks just like a garage door opener.

Let us know how you do with it.

I had a bug actually take some paint off of my drivers side mirror. Hitting a bug here in Florida is just about like hitting a deer. I have to remember to get some touch up paint.....

I am going to wait a few days and let the scratch guard do it's thing, the spot has already seemed to fade quite a bit since this happened so it looks like it may go away entirely. If not I'll go with the scratch X suggestion.

I've used clay on our EX35 without any issues.... if anything any micromarring from the clay should self repair.

I don't think you'll have any paint manufacturer give you the 'ok' to use clay.

Thanks, Canuck - that's what I wanted to know, absent any "official" response from the claybar makers. BTW I did also e-mail Zaino and got no response.

I used clay bar without a problem-the only products I use are Zaino since the results are fantastic. As far as scratches or paint touch up, I use DR Colorchip as it also does a great job. Not sure how it will work on the scratch shield paint though...

I just got a response -
"Absolutely, you can use any of our products on the paint on your new EX without issue.
