Scratch Guard Paint

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Ok I'm trying to get a definitive answer about this...

I just leased a 2011 EX35 journey AWD, with the premium package, and I don't know if it has the scratch guard paint or not. The sales person told me infiniti has discontinued using this, as it was getting really expensive to match by body shops, however there were some light fingernail scratches already on my hood that seem to be healing themselves...

what is the final word on this? Is it used on 2011 EX35's or not? :gotme

FWIW, I was told the same thing by my salesperson when I bought my 2011 a couple of weeks ago. What I was told was they stopped using it in 2011 as a cost cutting measure.

I have a 2008 and after 3 yrs it I can say that you don't really need it. It was a good idea but not properly executed. Its only good for very fine scratches casued by maybe carwashing and fingernail marks but will not stand a chance against even the lghtest stone chips, even bug marks sometimes dig deep and wont heal.

I'm not sure when they stopped, but I know my 2010 does not have it.

Supposedly 2009 was the last year.

Interesting... the Canadian site still mentions scratch shield paint for the 2011 model.

My 2010 has it (Canadian) but a quick rub of ScratchX does a way better job than this clear coat.

So I guess it boils down to this:

Scratch guard not so good-
What the he'll do we do with all the leftover finish?-
Paint the Canadian's cars. They'll be over-joyed, eh.

scratch guard = very very good...
Don't expect it to deflect stones and gravel. It is there to remove swirl marks and very fine scratches and keep the paint looking polished. It does a wonderful job, but it still needs to be maintained - like all paints. If ever given a choice between scratch guard and regular clear coat - obviously you would take the scratch guard paint.

:)

Nice find canuck99. That puts that "mystery" to rest. Guess I will email my salesperson to educate him just as I did with the cargo net. Thanks

I finally got around to checking under the hood on mine, yes the sticker is there saying scratch shield. Apparently it was not discontinued for my 2011 EX.
