Hi, have a 08 SL with 110k mi. The front brakes were replaced by the dealer about 20k ago,and the pads appear to have plenty of life remaining.

However, at low speeds and when I am driving in a parking lot or near other cars, I can hear a metallic scraping noise from the front driver brake. The noise happens whenever I am not touching the brake pedal also.

Any ideas on things to check?

Where can I find such an ambitious and smart mechanic???? the ones that I saw for the last 5-6 years were lazy, clumsy and inexperienced.

This turned out to be the metal brake dust shield on the inside of the rotor rubbing against the rotor because of brake dust build up and tight clearances. Hope this helps future members with the same issue. The solution is to simply bend the shield away from the rotor a bit.
