Today I was backing out of my driveway and the curb of my drive scraped up the passenger side lower corner black portion of my front bumper. Standing directly in front of my Versa you can see it which infuriates me!!!

I am always the one that takes excellent care of my car and takes every precaution not to damage my car. So now I feel like a big *** and I'm quite upset that I messed up my new ride.

Any body shop people out there that think this is a fixable repair without having to order a whole new bumper? I mean, I scraped it up pretty good. The black portion feels like plastic. I bought some 600 grit automotive sand paper and tried to smooth it out, but that wouldn't even touch it.

Any advice?Thanks,Apex

We're practically neighbors! Sorry to hear about that happening. I think I can relate to the feeling as obsessive as I am. I'm not a body shop person by any means, but I was able to salvage the bumper on my old Maxima and it has a pretty bad scrape. As for a solid body shop to use around here, Foster's Auto Body does immaculate work and if anyone can do it without replacing the bumper, they would be the place. They can be found on Capital Blvd. near 540. Like the other dude said, though, a picture would help a lot.

There ya go! That's what I should have said. Mine is waiting for me along with the rear valance at the UPS "Customer Service" store. Hopefully they can find it for me tomorrow after work...

I personally would let it go. You probably can't even see it from more than 12" away. There's a reason that part of the bumper is unpainted. I find scraping it is inevitable... and I can guarantee that if you spend money to fix it, it will definitely happen again. I've scrapped every car I've owned, except my '91 Tercel. It had tow hooks in the front on both sides that sat low enough to protect the bumper.

If anything, I would get some increasing grit sandpaper and go to work on it. Start around a 80 or 100 and work all the way to 800.

Actually, some are leaving the factory with painted lower lips and rocker panel guards... kinda defeats the purpose...

This is one of the major reasons I picked a Versa over a Honda Fit or Civic. It sits higher off the ground and I have a steep driveway. I actually measured front bumper distances from the ground when I was car shopping. So no, I have not scraped mine - yet. A friend who owns a Civic rountinely scrapes it when he parks in my driveway.
