I'm in PA, and I have a 240 that has an R-title (in Harrisburg) that runs fine. All it really needs is some sheetmetal work, new tires, and balance and alignment.

My Q is for experienced Auto-X drivers here. Does my car HAVE to be road legal to run? Doing this will require tons more time, money, etc... to get into shape. This car will be for track use strictly (stripping it down) and I wouldn't plan on driving it on roads. I was thinking about selling it and using the money towards modding my Suby, but I realized I don't want to really mess with my everyday driver like that, and RWD has better cornering characteristics (if not grip) than AWD, and hell, its alot more fun to drive around on the dry.

Thanks for any help.

Many of the cars in the SM (street modified) class and most of the Pro class cars aren't street legal. They trailer the cars to the events and run the crap out of them for 4-6 laps, then put them away.

As long as the vehicle is safe (no major fluid leaks, has wheels, tires, brakes, seatbelt(s), steering wheel, etc.) it will pass tech. Some of the cars in the Pro class have no windows, no interior and are fully caged. A lot of those guys drive in the Honda Challenge and whatnot.

That's in East TN, but I'd guess the SCCA rules are pretty much the same everywhere.

Pick up the latest scca rule book, that will tell you everything you need to know. They are like 15 bucks iirc.

Yea, I'm getting ahold of a free 2005 rulebook for the Philly area SCCA. I'm going to the meet this weekend at Warminster airfield. It will be my first experience... I'm having goosebumps!
