Found this pic of Dave Colemans (Sport Compact Car mag) project silvia. I guess it happened last week at thunderhill when he blew off an intercooler tube at full boost and the car went waaaay rich and the fuel ignited in the exhaust system.Note to self: make sure the intercooler pipes have beads rolled on them.

hope the link shows up.Project Silvia

I bet it would have been cool to see... Lucky for me i've only blew intercooler hoses while staging and launching at the track.

i've been wondering what was up with that project car. they haven't done a decent write up for it in months. guess we're gonna have to wait a little longer now :pface

I asked about the trailer hitch too, I guess Dave pulls his motorcycle trailer around with it. Trailer hitch or not, the car is fast and Dave is a damn good driver.

It's a very common thing with track cars. Maybe he's pulling a trailer with R-compound tires on it and some tools. Lots of autocross cars do it too(mostly Miatas - no interior space).

my car will never have a trailor hitch attached to it. i have a truck to haul things in, and friends to drive the truck

Or VERY fast National competing STi's, has a full set of wet and a full set of dry R-compounds

why waste gas with a truck just for a couple tires? ****in' throw a trailer hitch on there. Blasphemy? WTF?

i take more than tires. floor jacks, air tanks, a toolbox, some collapsable chairs, a cooler, you get the idea. Also, I haul stuff for more than just myself. So I will have two sets of tires to haul around as well. Hell, what I might start doing is borrowing my friend's trailer and trailering the 240 down to the events.

And I consider a trailer hitch blasphemous because it ruins the appearance of a sports car.

not only is that practicalbut think about it, you have a seriously strong brace that bolts across the rear end of your car.it works like a really good chasis brace

as for weight, i am sure it can be made up in taking out a seat or something

i dunno i just figured the car would be the vehicle being towed, not the one doing the towing.

If he was pulling the trailer when the bumper caught fire it could have roasted 8 r-compound tires too. Nothing like the smell of burning rubber.

at the end of a pipe, there is sometimes a lip that is used to help aid in clamping force. It's basically a hump that makes it hard for the hose to pop off if you have the clamp right behind it. Take your radiator hose off, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
