Last night, I was leaving work. My friend had someone with him and I wanted to show off the car. Well, the car had sat long enough to be cold. So, what i did next, you may all scorn me for the abuse of my beloved car :oface

The parking lot is all dirt, and it just rained, So, I figured it wouldn'y absolutely kill my car if i drop Clutcheda burnout; in second gear. Reversed, Pulled it up to the road with rear on mud, and let her fly, Dropped it AND.........nothing. :( All it did was sound like It was 5000 pounds heavier and wasnt engaging. I thought Sheet! so i tried quick in first, and The transmission did NOT even try to hook up at all.

i waited for a minute, and then pulled out. NO PROBLEM!? It seemed as if nothing was wrong at all. So Now I am wondering, what made it do that? And did the fact that it was cold have anything to do with it?

I told ya exactly what happened. it was weird. It felt like it was slipping, really bad the first time. Then I stopped and tried it in first gear. The Clutch didn't grab AT ALL. I waited one minute, then pulled out like normal, and It grabbed like nothing was wrong at all. The car was Cold when it slipped and didnt grab, but I waited a minute and then it worked.

Im no expert at transmission's, that's why i posted here. Is there anyway the transmission didnt have fluid pressure? (assuming that there is any fluid pressure needed?)

Thanx, and srry for the confusion>>> Nistech:D

manual trans dont need fluid pressure to engauge. being it was fine when you took off I have to ask this.. Are you sure your tire wasn't spinning away and you just didnt move? you probably only had one tire spinning assuming it isnt LSD. did the engine bog at all during release of the clutch?

Naw, Ive spun the car Many a time before, It was DEFINITELY being weird, no spin. When I engaged the first time, in second gear, It bogged down and barely moved forward, and no wheel spinning at all. Then, when i tried to burnout in first, It DID NOT grab at all, like it was still in neutral.

Then, i waited about a minute, and pulled out like normal, then revved it immediately after it grabbed to see if it was slipping, and it took off like a banshee (the way it should)

So Im confused, cuz it has worked ever since, no problem.any ideas?

(oh yea, Im pretty sure when I tried burning the first time, i smelled a brake-like smell, was that clutch?)

I did this once when I was a (very stupid) kid with a Toyata Corolla only I dropped it in 5th instead of 2nd and I was on clean, dry blacktop. Thought I'd destroyed my mom's clutch because it slipped like crazy for a while. A few days later, it was fine and still lasted many many miles before it needed replacing. My theory is that dropping it got it to slip enough under full load to heat it way beyond the clutch pad's thermal tolerances and, in my case, actually damaged the contact layer (can pads melt?). After using it a while, this damaged layer wore off and it got down to good pad material. I'm probably wrong, but it sounds plausible enough.

...ever experienced extreme brake fade ? try a panic stop from about 120mph....you would swear someone stole your pads...10 mins later they magically reappear. if you had a centriforce clutch w/ ceramic plate you wouldnt have a trans. next time just heel toe the gas & brake, be nice to the clutch, make john force proud:ylsuper
